Cycle of Millennia 2022 Session 56: Wylf

Admin/ September 2, 2022/ Books, Dungeons and Dragons

Here is week 56 of my 2022 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia, Wylf. Some secrets, long hidden will soon be revealed.

Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over four years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.

!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!

This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.

There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.

Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.

!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!

Before the group could make it to the inner sanctum of Wylf, they had to fight through rooms representing the entire pantheon of Gods. They fought their way through beasts representing Poten God of true neutrality.

Realizing that a bunch of beasts was easy compared to what they normally faced, Velkoara proved that she was a more dangerous beast than actual animals by transforming into a giant snake and eating several of the dinosaurs.

Next, the group entered the God of Law’s room. Glad to hear that Wylf did not think highly of the entity that had killed Rose and stolen her body, the group fought three Dragons. Luckily none of them were as strong as a Prime Dragon. Still Dragons are dragons, and the group fought carefully to avoid being caught in multiple breath attacks.

Well except for Caic who didn’t. But that was nothing new for the Dwarf. At least he survived yet another mistake created by charging in too fast.

The next room featured Entropy, Goddess of Chaos. Velkoara figured they would not fight anything since she was essentially the chosen for that God. But she was mistaken since this was still a place governed by Wylf. And so this trial also involved fighhting.

And the Eldritch Creatures that appeared were no less dangerous than all the others that the party had faced while dealing with Charice’s faithful. The only difference here was the entire world was in danger rather than a single city.

One Final Challenge:

Only one chamber remained and this one represented Wylf himself. The Wylf Head mentioned that a long time ago, Werebeasts were under the protection of the God of Freedom. But Kranaak in his desire to cause Madness to all things, corrupted these people and made sure they would only cause harm and destruction. A mockery of the God they once served.

But not all Were Creatures had been enslaved. Even if they were just phantoms, the room caused Werebears to appear. Apparently these had once been noble creatures. Since the party had never run into one, it was safe to assume that Kranaak had not successfully enslaved them.

After defeating all the rooms and learning about Wylf’s relationships with all the other Gods in the world, the party was finally ready to learn the truth of this mysterious God. Who was Wylf? Why had they been absent from everything thus far?

The Truth:

Lone and Jay awaited the group on the altar in the center of the entire temple. Things started getting clear when the high priest called Grez to the center. Instead of some summoning ritual to make the God appear, the room employed a much more simple trick.

Jay had said that Wylf’s try identity would be made clear. And with several mirrors all in a circle around him, Grez learned the truth. He was Wylf. And as soon as his brain processed that revelation, his memories from Godhood came back. And he remembered why he had done everything leading up to this moment.

Now that the party knew the truth, Grez needed to demonstrate that he remembered how to use his powers as Wylf. Jay pointed out that without his help the party stood no chance of saving the world, much less stopping all the armies of the three wicked Gods.

Proving Worth:

To that end, Jay asked Lone to test the God’s strength. She mentioned something about the God of Law weakening her and asked if she was suited. But Jay seemed confident that she was more than capable of being a proper opponent.

It turned out that Grez being Wylf was not the only surprise in this room. Just as Mirr had been a human avatar of a prime dragon so to was this woman. Specifically she transformed into Gomung, the Copper Dragon who had continuously trolled the party in the land of Dragons. Turned out the Dragon had been keeping an eye on them all this time.

But since the God of Law had taken the Dragon Souls, Lone even as a prime dragon was hardly stronger than any other Ancient Dragon. And Grez was slowly regaining his powers as Wylf. It was an incredibly one sided contest.

Having proved capable of using his God powers, Jay set one more trial up for Grez and the party. The two would cleanse Kranaak’s taint on Werebeasts all over the world. However, by doing so, the God of Madness would attack and try to stop them.

Which is exactly what happened. Lone along with the rest of the party fought off Demons attracted to the altar. Apparently now that Grez was using God powers, the other Gods had no issue cheating to attack the group.

With a massive boost in power, the party seems ready to finally take the battle back to Innovia City and release the final Neutral God. But what will happen when they do? They might want to say goodbye to their friends before they set out on this final journey. Assuming that the God of Law has not already taken their free will away that is.
