Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Sanford Veteran’s Memorial Park
Rather than return to the trail, I went to Sanford Veteran’s Memorial Park. I made sure to respect the space and what it stands for.
Sanford Veteran’s Memorial Park is a tiny corner of the downtown Sanford Riverwalk that is meant to be a spot for peace and reflection. I did not wish to disturb anyone else who chose to come here during my visit. And so I took several pictures at different angles to make sure that only I appear in this post.
With that in mind, I learned a lot while visiting. Sanford has a rich military history and I knew little about this places importance before reading up on the cities role in several major wars including World War I and Vietnam. While I knew beforehand that Sanford has a major port that served the United States as well as that this area is a major railroad hub, I found my knowledge lacking.
Outside of the signs that taught me a lot while visiting, there are also markers for the brave men and women from the Sanford area who served the United States through the countries history. While I might not like the wars themselves, I still see soldiers willing to put their lives on the line as brave. I made sure to respect these markers by standing away from them and limiting the pictures I took of them.
Lake Monroe also demanded my attention. The park is out on an inlet and I made sure to give myself some time to think. Yesterday was my birthday and after all the noise and excitement it was nice to take a minute and simply breath.
Pokémon Go:
Here is Sanford Veteran’s Memorial Park in Pokémon Go. Its right nearby the Sanford waterfront as well as the downtown district. And while there are some spawns and a couple Pokestops, is this really what you should be doing at a Memorial Park? I mean obviously I did play here and I have before, but this really isn’t the place to come just for a Pokémon Go.
Here is my newest buddy, Floette. I fear we won’t be traveling together for too long, but enjoy this little floating flower fairy for a bit. Also that is a lot of words that start with the letter f in a row.
Here I am not as tired as I feared after my birthday. It was nice to relax a bit. I’ll be heading back to the trail soon and there are plenty of parks in Sanford to check out.
