Megacon 2023 Day 3 Review
I returned to MegaCon 2023 for Saturday. This was day 3 of the event and quite possibly the busiest day of MegaCon I have ever attended.
As day 3 of the event and possibly the busiest day of any MegaCon event in its history, there were tons of cosplayers to showcase. I didn’t even come close to showcasing all the best ones. I am only one person after all. Can’t be everywhere at once, not to mention that cosplay is not consent. I asked each and every person featured in these pictures permission first.
For Day 3 I saw plenty more Genshin Impact represented. Of course there was My Hero Academia, Chainsaw Man, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Marvel, DC, Persona, and Pokémon. I already mentioned these Anime, Video Games, and Comic Book Universes. And they are quite popular of course so its no surprise.
I joined the Pokémon cosplay group as I suited up as Team Rocket Boss Giovanni once more. Its probably my best cosplay so far. But hopefully I can create even better ones for future cons. I mentioned Dottorre yesterday. That is one of the costumes in he works.
Anyway, here were some newcomers to that list of represented series today. I saw Fire Force, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Bloodborne, and Fire Emblem. Most of these I have seen on prior days, I even cosplayed as a Bloodborne character the day before. But I saw another one. And might I say that hunter cosplay was a lot more detailed than mine.
Seeing Friends:
I ran into some friends from outside MegaCon 2023 on Day 3. And while I had taken some pictures with friends on the first two days, I wanted to draw attention to it here. As it turns out, a few of them found me from my voice alone. For those who know me, I guess that is not the most surprising thing.
I also want to take a moment to talk about another of my friends who had a booth at Artists Alley at the Con. Since I do what I can to support my friends in their creative pursuits, I wanted to make sure to showcase them. You can check out their artwork here. I want to work with them in the future as I have known half of this pair since I was a little kid.
Zach Aguilar Panel
The first panel I went to and by far the one I was most excited for, was Zach Aguilar. Before I get into the man, the legend, and what he said or even who he voices, I want to talk about how this panel started. Right before he was announced properly, Zach popped up from under the table. How he managed to remain perfectly still, and get under there without anyone knowing it is anyone’s guess.
Surprises aside, Zach is one of my favorite voice actors in the industry. Voicing Byleth in Fire Emblem, Aether in Genshin Impact, Tanjiro in Demon Slayer, and many many more roles. I love all three of those games/anime so its no shocker why I like Zach. But I also watch his YouTube Streams where he has played Among Us with other Genshin Voice Actors.
I got a chance to ask Zach a question about whether he and Max Mittleman (Itto in Genshin Impact) would be doing any gaming streams together. That question excited him since he was planning to do so in the future. I then got a chance to ask if there was any way to convince Sarah Miller-Crews (Lumine in Genshin Impact) to join them. He laughed and stated a flat “No.” He explained that there was no magic trick in existence that could convince her to play the sort of games that he and Max would play together.
Suzie Yeung Panel:
The final panel I visited for Day 3 featured Suzie Yeung. The first thing I found out at her panel is that she is relatively new in the industry. Yuffie in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was her first voice acting role. But it looks like she did quite well since she also now voices Makima in Chainsaw Man as well as Eula in Genshin Impact.
She had a lot to say about these roles as well as countless others. Indeed, I probably learned more about the industry from her than during Zach or even Chris and Sonny’s panel on Day 2. Also since she is less popular than Zach, I got a chance to ask her several questions. That is probably part of why I feel like I got more from this panel.
I asked her about how she felt about getting a chance to help flesh out Yuffie who admittedly was very one dimensional in the original Final Fantasy 7. Must have been a question she liked a lot since she spent some time answering it. That made me happy of course.
She also demonstrated her vocal range during the panel. Her actual voice sounds a lot more like Yuffie, but in the middle of one of her jokes, shifted to her Makima voice. This was cool and jarring at the same time.
Wrap Up:
Day 3 was my last day at MegaCon. And I had a lot of fun overall. I had to work for Day 4 so I couldn’t attend. Admittedly, I was pretty burned out after three days so I might not have had the energy to do all the work I did for these posts for the final day.
I’m excited to see what happens at MegaCon 2024 which has already been announced for an early February date.
