MegaCon 2023 Day 1 Review
After a year away, I returned to MegaCon. It was good to be back. Let’s take a look at what I saw on Day 1.
One of my favorite parts of MegaCon are all the cosplays. People pour their heart and souls into these costumes. While I didn’t wear one for day 1, I made sure to take pictures of plenty of people who caught my eye.
There were a lot of Genshin Impact and Chainsaw Man costumes this year, which pleased me greatly since I’m all about both of those stories. Plenty of Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia as well. I want to give major props to people brave enough to do a gender bender cosplay like the Rem from Re Zero pictured above. After I told him that I want to cosplay as Homura from Madoka Magica and he told me to go for it.
I also saw a couple Pokémon Cosplayers. Hoping to run into them in a couple days when I would be wearing a costume from that game, I remembered who I saw.
Brianna Knickerbocker Panel
The first panel I went to at MegaCon 2023 Day 1 was Brianna Knickerbocker’s panel on Demon Slayer and more. She voices Kanao in that show, who is one of the more interesting characters that isn’t part of the 3 male leads dynamic that Shonen tends to present.
She had a lot to say about Demon Slayer. I could tell that she loved voicing Kanao and made sure we knew how excited she was about the upcoming season. That season has already started as of this blog post.
But that was not the only role that she is known for. And by far my favorite of the characters she has voiced is Hu Tao in Genshin Impact. She also voices Rem in Re Zero and made sure when I asked her a question at that panel that I let her see that I have a Rem on my keychain. She thought that was cool.
Luci Christian Panel
Next up and my last panel for the day featured Luci Christian. I wasn’t as well aware of who she has voiced, but I learned pretty quick at this panel. Its a shame I have not paid more attention to her since she has voiced countless characters that I like.
By far her most well known voiced characters, given how many people were cosplaying the characters at MegaCon 2023 are Nami from One Piece and Ochaco Uraraka from My Hero Academia. The former of these two roles she has voiced since the English Dub of the Anime began. Which is impressive considering the sheer length of One Piece.
I didn’t ask any questions at this panel. Content with what others asked her instead, I got a chance to listen and rest. I’ll admit that I have not watched One Piece and know little about it. And I’ll also admit that Uraraka is not one of my favorite characters in My Hero Academia. I like Toga and Tsuyu much more.
All in all, this was an important panel. Luci has been a voice actor in the industry for a long time and had a lot to say about what its been like over the years. For those who want to know what voice acting, especially in the Anime Industry is like as far is dubbing, she is one to pay attention to.
Wrap Up:
I had a lot of fun at MegaCon 2023. Day 1 was a lot more calm than what would come after. But that isn’t a bad thing. Gave me the chance to ease my way in. For Day 2, I would wear a costume. Make sure to check that part out to see what I did.
