Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Fort Mellon Park
I decided to check out Fort Mellon Park before returning to the trail. Hurricane Ian and Nicole kept me away from a park in my backyard for far too long. I set out to change that.
Fort Mellon Park is split into a few sections. The first was hit the hardest by the hurricanes. I probably shouldn’t have even set foot here since it looks the grass is being regrown. Well too late now. What’s done is done.
When the park isn’t in recovery mode, I know that this green space is filled with people doing all sorts of things. But when I visited, it was empty. At least of humans. It wasn’t silent with all the birds singing.
I can’t wait till this park fully recovers. I live nearby and I’ll be sure to visit again. No excuses.
An Unusual Feature:
The next section of Fort Mellon Park was by far its most unique feature. Benches and workout stations surround one of the main events of the park. And its something I have rarely seen in Florida. Rarer still that this time it costs money too.
I’m talking about the large splash zone for the little ones. I suppose it makes sense to charge given that rarity. Need to give credit though to the design. Better to leave my views on Capitalism out of this.
There are spots to sit all around the splash area. The entire thing is perfectly spherical and even shows the cardinal directions. I almost forgot about the spots true purpose as I stood alone and allowed to take in my surroundings.
There were plenty of larger shelters nearby too. In Florida if you want to be out and about in the summer then having shade nearby is invaluable. No need to talk about the sun further on this post. There are plenty of others on this blog that do that.
The Park:
The next part of Fort Mellon Park was the park part. What I mean to say in more words, this was the section with swings and plenty of stuff for the little ones. But just like the last section its in a large circle with wide open viewing and benches.
This park has a wonderful setup for families that all want to use this space together. It definitely was built for a wider age range to use the greenspace than what I usually find. Especially in how this design lets everyone use that space while near each other. That’s impressive since most of the time from what I have seen its different age ranges in different areas.
I do also want to point out that the stuff for the kids to play on is larger and with more interesting setups than at most parks. I’m into architecture and unique designs. Its one of the reasons I like exploring. This park has a lot of unique architecture and I appreciate it a lot.
The final section of Fort Mellon Park features several basketball courts, several more shelters, and more greenspace. I have visited this park several times in the past, but this was the first time I got to take a proper look at everything. Even this last section of the park, which this similar to several other parks in function manages to stand out.
The circular design was applied here too. It works perfectly letting families do what they want but all near each other. A shame that this park design doesn’t get used more. I mean there are probably drawbacks, but I don’t want to bring up such dark topics on my blog. I have fiction to focus on that stuff.
Pokémon Go:
Let’s take a look at Fort Mellon Park in Pokémon Go. It should be obvious by now that this is a good spot. Its a park after all and one that sees a lot of visitors. But if that isn’t enough, the park is right in the middle of Downtown Sanford which is a city filled with tons of Pokestops and constant spawns due to the sheer number of people nearby.
What I am trying to say is you should absolutely visit Downtown Sanford for Pokémon Go and come to this park. There are several amazing spots to play the game and this is one of those. And the design of this place makes it an even better reason to come.
As eggciting as my last couple sets of hatches have been, things seem to have returned to normal. This set was meh at best and worthless at worst. The Espurr makes it a little worthwhile, but Yungoos is everywhere. I don’t need them from eggs.
Here is the shiny Noibat. I hope you like this one cause its gonna be traveling with me for quite some time. I like Dragons and this one is green too. Almost perfectly matches the green on that play place behind it.
Wrap Up:
I’m wearing green too and avoiding looking directly into the sun for this picture. Otherwise my smile would be much larger. My eyes wouldn’t be all squinting either.
This is one of my last adventures of the year. I wonder where I’ll explore next. Several trails to check out nearby and there are always endless numbers of parks. To 2023 I can’t wait to find new places to explore.
