Centrum Glacies 2022 Session 30: Zone of Truth
Week 30 in 2022 of this Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues as the party’s trust waivers Malcolm casts a zone of truth to try and sift through the lies.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. However I’m still working on that project. Give it some time.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing once the book series starts hitting virtual and real shelves.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.
Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group at large is currently succumbing to magical wounds that appear to be turning them into Demons.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
It took some time, but the party slowly calmed down after their internal clash. Not that they had much choice. Surrounded by dangerous enemies that would prey on weakness, survival demanded they continue to work together. A shame that Jyona didn’t believe that Zyn was manipulating her.
Malcolm cast Zone of Truth and questioned the group. He wanted to end this chain of lies and illusions immediately. Unfortunately he saw immediately that most of the party resisted the spell. And in a chain of unlikely events, realized that only he knew that such a spell had been cast at all.
The only one who really responded to his questions was Adrenne. And she was not gentle. Rather than help him mentally she berated him. Calling his ideas childish at best, she pointed out that it was clear based on what he was valuing that he hadn’t suffered enough in his life. She stormed off. Something had upset her, but the Paladin had no idea what.
And so the Zone of Truth spell backfired. Malcolm now felt that he knew less about their situation than before. He trusted the words of his companions less. All and all, he regretted even trying to use such magic at all.
Upgrades:
The group returned to the Orc encampment. At least they didn’t encounter any enemies in the canyons along the way. They might be physically ready to fight, but mentally, the party was drained. A good thing they found rest and better when they made it back.
The whole reason they had gone into a Cult of Obsidian base in the first place was to retrieve items to make equipment. And now that had done just that. A few of them looked to see how they could power themselves up.
Malcom got armor and a shield to block fire. Considering their current enemies, this was a wise choice. With a few more upgrade he might actually feel the part of Mithril Adventurer.
Trent got a staff that helped with his transformations and armor to resist fire. He had the same ideas as Malcolm when it came to getting stronger and better equipped.
Wrap Up:
The others didn’t add anything new to their inventory. Whether that will be a mistake or not moving forward is anyone’s guess.
