Exploring the World With Pokémon Go: A Little Corner of Sanford
I was in downtown Sanford and decided to walk around a bit. Since I have not gone on adventures in a bit because of Hurricane Ian, I decided to show some of the devastation.
In downtown Sanford there are little corners like the one in the pictures above that are designed to sit and relax to take a break after a long day. I had to take my pictures carefully since I was not the only one paying this little corner of the world a visit.
In addition to the greenery, there are several signs that talk about the history of Sanford. Until I moved here I was unaware of most of what has made this city significant through the years. Also looks like after the hurricane, the city is working with local organizations to help clean up the damage. Lots of adopt a park and highway signs dot downtown showing which companies and organizations are assisting in these efforts.
One of the important landmarks here is a bench donated to the city of Sanford. But I couldn’t get any pictures of it since it was in use the entire time I was here. Not a big deal though. After all, the purpose of this blog is to get people to visit these locations.
Hurricane Ian Damage:
As promised, here is a picture of some of the devastation of Hurricane Ian. The lake rose almost 10 feet higher than normal. The grass in front of me is under water in this picture.
And look carefully, the water is covering a road and a trail. And not just any trail. The Riverwalk Trail that I visited in a prior blog post is beneath that water. You can tell where these landmarks are supposed to be relative to the sign still above the water and the power lines over head.
Seems like those birds are happy about the flooding. Though as a human, I couldn’t stand the smell. I learned after visiting that the stench was caused by a million of dead snails. That’s not hyperbole. That many really washed up on the shore because of the storm.
Sanford will recover from Ian in time, but its gonna take long time before the water is all the way back down. Even longer before all the destruction is cleaned up leaving the Hurricane as just a memory.
Pokémon Go:
Downtown Sanford is a great place to play Pokémon Go. With tons of Pokestops and man gyms to fight other trainers over, its a perfect place to take a walk. Learn some of Sanford’s history while getting some exercise. Catch plenty of Pokémon along the way. Its a win win. This small green space is just one of many stops on that walk.
I was a bit tired when I took this picture. But don’t let that fool you. It was nice to finally get out of my house and go for a walk. Hurricane Ian may have put a temporary stop to my adventures, but that won’t last forever. So look forward to where I travel next. It will happen soon.
