Centrum Glacies Session 77: Endless Waves of Wraiths
Week 77 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues with the party trapped in a dangerous jungle. And with potential allies fighting off endless waves of Wraiths.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. You can check out the first one here.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing in the book series.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture, psychological warfare, child abuse, slavery.
One of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group was incinerated in lava. But rather than die, they were transformed into Demons. They might be free from these transformations for now, but only time will tell what this means for them.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
Trent maintained his Light Elemental Form to keep the deadly spores out of the rest of the party’s lungs. Unfortunately this had the side effect of attracting constant streams of blood sucking moths. The group had to stay close, but at a few feet away from Trent lest the moths attack them. The only positive to this was that his elemental form instantly burned the moths as they flew at him.
As the group approached a large number of torches ahead, they heard fighting. In the shadows of those lights, the party saw Light of the Abyss Soldiers fighting against monsters. Creatures with red eyes. More Wraiths.
Teztcal summoned his spectral guardian before transforming into a Dragon himself. He grew tired of these Wraiths and wanted to finish this job so that he could return to his baby Dragon. Obrom stared in awe as up until this point he was convinced that Teztcal was all talk.
Jyona sent her Animated Armor to the frontlines. Not only was the creature immune to the toxic spores in the air, but it was also the hardest to kill combatant.
But hardest to kill didn’t mean invincible. There were a lot of Wraiths and more kept appearing. The Animated Armor was overwhelmed and reduced to dust in record time. The group was down one of their sturdiest combatants.
Harrowing Situation
Meanwhile, The Light of the Abyss Soldiers were fighting for their life on the other side of a thick tree line. the party tried to thin the wraith numbers in hopes of saving them. But their numbers were growing faster than the party could exterminate them. This situation was quickly turning hopeless.
Feeling desperate, Jyona blinked through the trees and over to the soldiers fighting the wraiths. She tried to assist them. But the stress of all this fighting with very little rest seemed to finally be getting to her.
In fact, she nearly hit a soldier and then herself with a spell that backfired. Thankfully, due to one of the runes she had created, her own attack phases through her. At least that was working out in her favor. Not much else was working out though.
Desperation was setting in as there appeared to be no end to the wraiths. The Light of the Abyss soldiers numbers dwindled until nearly all of them had been slain. To make matters even worse, the party’s resources were running dry.
Desperate Spell
The last of the soldier’s Wizards threw a hail mary spell. One that finally helped thin their numbers. A good portion of the Wraiths in their party of the battle were obliterated. The Light of the Abyss Soldiers finally had some breathing room.
The same did not hold true for the party. Trent was knocked out of his Elemental Form as the Wraiths focused on him. And as he shifted back to his Human form, the light he cast faded, plunging the party into darkness. At least the moths fled elsewhere.
Trent saw how desperate this situation was becoming. He realized that there was only one option left. And so he made use of a power he vowed to never call upon again. Changing again, the former Druid’s Human form melted away. But this time it was replaced by something else entirely. Trent changed back into a Demon. Something Obrom had never seen happen.
With his massively increased power Trent quickly cleared out several of the Wraiths. And their numbers finally started to thin. But he internally screamed worried that this wasn’t worth the potential cost to his soul.
Wrap Up
This is only the start of the Platinum Commission. The party might have taken on something far beyond their normal capabilities.
