Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Jim Rink Park

Admin/ May 3, 2021/ Florida, North Florida, Travel

Next up in San Marco, I explored Jim Rink Park. Let’s take a look at what I found in this spot that may or may not even be in San Marco Florida at all.

When I first made it to Jim Rink Park, it was hard for me not to compare it to my last adventure. Not only are the two parks only a couple blocks away from one another, but their structure is near identical. Both are near the Saint Johns River. They both feature a statue in the middle of the park too.

But the similarities go even farther than that. Both have almost no clear parking space available. Apartment complexes ring the outside of both. I almost did a double take and wondered if I had messed up and gone to that same park by accident.

As I went closer to the river though, I found a few things that separated the two parks. It also put my sanity on track and helped fight off potential double takes.

Differences:

The biggest difference between my last adventure and this one was the weather conditions. Last time the skies were clear blue. There was little wind. This time around, while at Jim Rink Park, it was clear that a storm was coming soon. It actually started raining soon after I left.

That is still not a lake or the ocean in the above image. Its the Saint Johns River at one of its widest points. Looks pretty large though on a not so clear day doesn’t it?

Despite the small space, there were a couple park benches here. Perfect for relaxing while not getting too far from downtown Jacksonville. Other notable features include a seemingly obligatory statue right in the middle. Though this one wasn’t at all like the one at my last park adventure.

One final thing of note. Right near the river I saw a sign posted that warned about cables nearby. I’m not sure why any boat would want to anchor right here, but apparently its enough of a problem for that sign to be there.

From this angle, Jim Rink Park looks a little different. You can seer that same statue as before as well as the river. That same I95 bridge is even closer than before. I wish it had been a nicer day. My fault for exploring a park in Florida around 4pm though. It almost always rains at that time of the day in the spring.

Pokémon Go:

Here is Jim Rink Park in Pokémon Go. You can also see the last park I visited just up the road. Both are identical as far as the game is concerned. Each had a gym and a Pokestop. While both are at least marked as parks on the map, the EX Gyms are really the only reason to come here. There are some other locations close by that are much better for playing Pokémon Go. This spot is really tailored for locals.

While exploring Jim Rink Park, I hatched a Larvitar. I wanted something else, but I’ll take the candy at least.

Munna had fun at Jim Rink Park. Probably has something to do with that flying power it has. Hopefully it will spread some good dreams.

Here I am without a mask again. I was all alone at Jim Rink Park. This time, I look grumpy because I was tired. Earlier in the day I drove back from Orlando, Florida.

Wrap Up:

Two parks remain in San Marco. I saved the best for last. Look forward to what I find next.
