Cycle of Millennia 2021 Session 10: Barrel’s Last Stand
Here is week 10 of my 2021 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. Lets go over session 10: Barrel’s Last Stand.
Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.
!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!
This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.
There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.
Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.
!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!
The party Returned to Lord Death. They had only a few days to prepare for their next major fight. Failure would not be an option if they messed up.
Hadron snuck into Grez’s room and “stole” the booze Monk had stolen prior. How he managed to do this was incredible since the barbarian was not one accustomed to sneaking.
Velkora randomly fell unconscious. The party ignored her. Probably had something to do with the fact that she served an evil Goddess.
Grez was enraged when he noticed that Hadron stole what he claimed as his own. The Monk threatened the Barbarian. Lord Death got angry. He’s a pretty scary being when that happens. Even Grez stood down.
Next, Grez tried to write name on barrel using his time stop for maximum petty to claim ownership of barrel. Lord Death demonstrated that Time Stop did not hinder him in his own domain. In an act that was unlike his normal behavior, the powerful being then removed Grez’s name and replaced it with his own. Perhaps being trapped in that place for so long made the former enforcer of the Death God petty as well.
Grez shattered barrel in fury and spent the next couple hours gathering the pieces. He built a door using what he gathered and claimed that small corner of Lord Death’s necropolis as his own. And took a single piece to use in a later scheme.
Plans:
Caic talked to Lord Death about philosophy and belief. Realizing all the horrible things that continued on with increasing frequency made him wonder if keeping to his ideals was worth it. Lord Death reminded him that in such a horrible world, simply choosing to live was a victory in itself.
Hadron trained through the rest of the day. There wasn’t much else to do. Grez slept not even feeling like training after building that door. Velkora was still unconscious. No one seemed to care.
The next day, the Party went to Mongress once more. While most of the group helped build the colosseum, Caic talked to Marriette. Or rather he tried to. While she tried her best to stay pleasant, the Dwarf jumped from topic to topic, and apparently said a few things she disliked.
When the Paladin found Henrick, he asked him about what he might have said to offend his wife. Upset, the Innovian noble simply excused himself. He knew not to antagonize Caic after getting completely stomped by Grez in one on one combat.
Schemes:
Not much else happened and the Party returned to Lord Death once more. Hadron showed the orphaned kids his bag of tricks. The Barbarian summoned a lion and told it to do a dance. He didn’t really know what kids were into.
Velkora spied on Hadron and the children. Grez spied on Velkora Each had their own agenda. But that wasn’t a surprise. Lord Death watched them both and grimaced that somehow this group was the world’s best chance.
Finally, the day of the full moon was upon them. The group had made multiple plans independently of each other. They chose not to discuss these differing ideas. Instead. they left soon before dusk to scout their enemies lair and plan their attack. They didn’t like what they found.
Wrap Up:
While the last couple sessions have been tame, the group must now battle against Nihilinn’s forces. Liches, Witches, and Necromancers are already visible. But in the land of death, there are always more corpses nearby.
