Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Bill Keller Park
My mother was visiting from out of town, so I decided to take her to Bill Keller Park and show her how I create the posts for this Travel Blog.
Bill Keller Park was built for a clear purpose. And I have visited other parks made to serve that same use. Its a baseball park of course. While I have never really been a baseball guy myself, I appreciate the sport for what it means for people who grew up with it.
The park was quiet while my mother and I visited. A shame because the scenery is pretty all around it. Maybe the park being far back in a neighborhood in Debary is partially to blame, but there are signs on the main roads leading here. Can’t blame the extreme heat this time. Maybe Thursday isn’t an optimal day to view the park when its in use?
But there is more to see and do at Bill Keller Park besides baseball. The park features a basketball court and a playground protected from the Florida sun. You would think that more playgrounds would have shade like this. Seems important when keeping kids safe.
Outside of this area of the park, there were also a few sheltered spots and plenty of green space to make use of. A shame that it was empty while my mom and I visited. But who knows. Perhaps the park comes alive on the weekends.
Baseball:
Naturally the main event and purpose of Bill Keller Park is baseball. The fields were being cleaned and upkeeped while we visited so I stayed off them. But that didn’t stop me from getting plenty of pictures. The facilities seem to have been built with care. I’m sure that during peak hours this place is packed and filled with excitement from parents and kids alike.
Fitting then that I visited this park with my mom. I can only imagine that she enjoyed being here even more than I did. For me, going to parks has become a habit. I have done this for several years now. But she sees me perhaps for a week or two each year. So not only was she visiting a park in relative peace and quiet, but got to enjoy her time with me too.
Never was much of a baseball guy. Maybe I should have asked her if she wanted me to play the sport when I was little. Tried tee ball and was pretty terrible at it. Little me didn’t like doing things I was bad at. A habit I seem to have carried into adulthood.
Pokémon Go:
Bill Keller Park was a pretty good spot to play Pokémon Go. Plenty of spawns combined with several tightly packed Pokestops and a couple gyms is the winning formula in game most of the time. And while there are many parks I have visited in the past that are better than this one, compared to the trails nearby this park is a gold mine.
Whether you are here for baseball, some quiet time, time with family, basketball, or Pokémon Go. You will not leave disappointed. I certainly wasn’t.
Sandile is back to show their enjoyment on my adventures. I’m a bit sad that the adventures together are coming to a close. I know I have said this before, but Sandile needs 125 candies to evolve. I started with about 20 when they became my buddy to gain the rest. I’m currently at 106 which is much closer than when I started.
Normally I take these pictures alone. But when I visited Bill Keller Park, I wasn’t alone. With her permission here my mom too. She was happy to accompany me on this adventure. I’m glad that she is proud of me maintaining this blog and going on these adventures. Helps validate that me starting this adventure years ago was one of the best decisions of my life.
