Cycle of Millennia 2022 Session 46: Into the Realm of Law
Here is week 46 of my 2022 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. They are at long lest delving into the realm of law.
Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.
!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!
This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.
There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.
Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.
!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!
The group reconvened at Lord Death’s Necropolis to plan their next move. While there Grez got mad at the Death Knights and accidentally sent them away with his poorly thought out exact words. Realizing he couldn’t command them properly anymore gave him pause.
But not for too long. They needed to get into the realm of the neutral God. So the party returned to the Sliver Dragons. Grez filled them in on what they needed to do. And Hadron offered some extra information that muddled the situation.
Realizing that entering the Neutral God’s realm would kill Rose, the group talked over their options. While deliberating, Grez made a misstep and added more trouble to themselves and the Land of Dragons.
For the second time in a row his exact words caused problems. This time Caethia had been summoned accidentally. As usual having the reality warping servant of Kranaak nearby was a no go. And the Silver Dragon was not happy at all to see her.
To make her leave and hopefully create a better situation to deal with than their current one, the group asked if she would go deal with the Blue Dragons. She didn’t ask for anything in return. Apparently going after Dragons was more than enough. She teleported away and missed the group getting berated by the Silver Dragon for unleashing such a powerful force upon his species. He refused to grant his blessing.
A Clear Scheme:
But all was not lost, though the party didn’t like what happened next. Leader of Blue Dragon approached party telepathically. Apparently Caethia’s little adventure was causing havoc already. And the party just had to go find another of their friends.
Grez went to fetch Belwyn. In exchange, Rose would be returned to them. If the party brought both Dragons into the Neutral God realm, the Blue Dragon would allow them entry. Something about this whole situation didn’t seem right, but what choice did they have?
After Grez left, the Blue Dragon summoned Rose. She looked no worse for ware, but this all seemed too easy. What was going on?
Rose gave a letter to Velkoara. She told the group that there was no guarantee that they would all make it out of this alive. Requesting telepathically that her former Cultist ally give the letter to Grez if she died did not sit well with Velkoara. Why was the woman so certain that she would be dying soon?
Grez returned with Belwyn and Velkoara said nothing to him about the letter. Realizing that the moment they started on this path that there was no going back, the group braced themselves.
No Turning Back:
The path to Realm of Law opened right above the place where all the Dragons had met prior. With a bright light that told everything nearby what was happening, the group had no choice but to press forward. Even though by doing so, they would draw the attention and wrath of all three Evil Gods.
The Realm of Law was a strange place that didn’t look like it belonged to reality at all. But at least it was open and bright. The last two realms had been underwater and filled with overwhelming darkness. So this was a welcome change.
But a much more unwelcome change happened soon after. Belwyn and Rose flew through the air due to an unknown force. And as they reached the center a shield formed around them. Not only did the sounds from the other side of said barrier get blocked, but it was clear to the party that the shield was shrinking.
Not wanting to find out whether that barrier would kill their friends, the group prepared to fight through the several Dragons in view. Angry and ready to cause violence, they attacked the closest ones.
Black Dragons serving Nihilinn were closest. And to save Rose and Belwyn, the party had no issues with sending these Dragons to their God. But they found something curious. The Dragons only attacked from afar and made no effort to approach. Were they stalling for time?
Past the Black Dragons another area opened up. This chamber was filled with tons of Undead and in the far back something even worse. The Prime Black Dragon themselves. The group realized that in the near future they would need to fight one of the most powerful Dragons in existence to save their friends.
Wrap Up:
The party has fought countless dangerous foes, but are they ready to face a Dragon of this power? To save their friends and the world, they have no choice.
