Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: North Ridge Trail
While visiting my best friend in Iowa, I decided to go for a walk one day. I explored parts of the North Ridge Trail and a bit beyond that.
When I first set out on North Ridge Trail, I was worried about rain. Unlike in Florida, Iowa weather is far more predictable. And according to weather forecasts, rain was coming my way soon. But I needed to do something for two hours. My friends were working on a project and needed complete silence near them. Knowing that such a task is difficult for me, I had decided to explore nearby instead.
This part of Iowa has plenty of biking paths and large sidewalks. It makes me jealous that Orlando does not have such systems in place. Of course given that Orlando is one of the worst cities in the country to walk around on foot, I’m not surprised.
From what I could tell, there was plenty of construction along the path. This looks like a developing area. Not surprising since I was not far from Iowa City or Cedar Rapids. For those who want to live near cities but not in them, this is prime real estate.
Transition:
As I traveled along North Ridge Trail, I had to take a lot of care not to get other people in my photos. Not only were there workers building stuff all along this segment, but there were cars. I was walking along a major road in the area after all.
One important landmark missing from this adventure is a church that I passed. There were many people out in the parking lot and I couldn’t get any proper pictures of that spot. The reason I bring this up is you might notice two distinctive areas above. The church stood between the two.
After crossing the street near said church, the trail moves away from the street and goes through some fields. I’m not sure if it was the weather or Covid related, but for most of this part of the trip I was all alone.
Peaceful Silence:
As I moved farther down North Ridge Trail, I got to see the fields that the Midwest is known for in better detail. Just like when I was in Illinois, fields and marsh land are everywhere. You might be excused into thinking that this place was near my couple adventures in that other state. Then again, the two states do share a border so its not unreasonable that it might look similar.
All fun adventures must come to an end. This was the end point of my walk down North Ridge Trail. Then again, I might have missed a lot. This might not even be North Ridge Trail. There were a lot of bike paths near me. The only time I even saw a label for any of this was on Google Maps. Said lable only refered to the first part.
I never saw any signs that told me important names. I’m doing my best to label everything the best I can. But giving it a name was better than listing “unnamed trail”
The other end of the path took me to some neighborhoods. I saw a few more people as I approached the end of the road. Choosing not to go further since it started raining, instead I headed back. This was a fun little adventure, even if I have no idea what this trail is actually called.
Pokémon Go:
Well here is part of North Ridge Trail in Pokémon Go. Unfortunately there is not a single Pokestop on the entire journey. If you want to play Pokémon Go around here, go to one of the nearby parks. The trail is not the best spot to do so.
Sewaddle was right at home in this field. They had a lot of fun despite the heat.
I hated two eggs on this adventure. One at the start, and one much later on. I wasn’t impressed with either though. Then again, I have almost every Pokémon in the game. Its rare that I am pleased with hatches.
Hey look its your perpetually sad looking tour guide starring directly into the sun. I swear I had fun on the North Ridge Trail or whatever this place is actually called.
Wrap Up:
I’m back in Orlando as of writing this post, but while in Iowa I managed to explore one last place. And of my posts there, it was my favorite adventure. Look forward to that soon.
