Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Gowe Park
Now that I am all situated, there was a trail just waiting for me to go check out. But before I return to the Des Plaines River Trail, there was a park that I chose to check out, that took me down memory lane. Let’s take a look at Gowe Park. A place a adjacent to where I went to high school.
Gowe Park is nestled right between the Warren Township High School and Des Plaines River Trail. Its a relatively hidden spot that requires driving almost right to the high school parking lot and then taking a side ride to the trailhead parking. But it makes sense that its hard to find because this park was made in mind for the students and local community.
In fact you can see some of the training fields for the high school in the above pictures. What you can’t see in the above pictures which made me roll my eyes a little were the signs warning that this parking lot was not for students to use. Most likely because the high school wants to charge for parking permits. I have feelings on charging for parking lots, but that is not something worth discussing here.
Instead I want to talk about the park itself. Featuring a basketball court and plenty of park benches in the shade, this is a perfect spot to take a seat and rest a while. Our lives are hectic and the news wants us to be constantly stressed. And so green spaces like this one are more important than ever. One of the buildings weas in disrepair and I hope that it will be fixed soon. Its a negative mark on an otherwise beautiful park.
Pokémon Go
Anyway, I have talked at length about Gowe Park in the real world. But how does it measure up in Pokémon Go? Its actually a pretty fantastic place to pull out the game if you want to just take a seat. If you stand or sit in the middle like I am in the above image, you are in range of several Pokestops and a Gym. There was a power spot here which means that’s a common feature as well. And although you can’t see the spawns in that picture because I caught them all, I stood there for a good amount of time to get everything. And even more Pokémon spawned soon after I took the picture.
If you are hiking the Des Plaines River Trail for whatever reason, I would recommend taking a little stop over at Gowe Park before you continue your adventure. Whether it be for Pokémon Go, or to simply enjoy the quiet scenery its worth a pit stop.
I didn’t move around too much, but as luck would have it, I hatched three eggs while exploring Gowe Park. I’ll never say no to more Aegislash and Tinkaton candy. They are two of my favorite Pokémon after all. And since these were all 10k eggs, I earned quite a but of stardust.
Here I am trying to smile while the sun is in my eyes. I missed not worrying about burning up in the sun during the summer, but I’m sure I’ll change my tune when the Chicago winter comes knocking. But until then look forward to more blog posts. Especially since I have extra free time until I start a job.
