Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Wilson’s Landing Park
As promised, I explored Wilson’s Landing Park. After hiking the Wekiva Trail, I spotted the entrance to a park I didn’t know existed. Intrigued, I went to visit.

The majority of Wilson’s Landing Park is dedicated to open green fields and a boat launch. Given that a part of the Wekiva River flows right alongside the park, its clear what its original purpose was. But it is clear that enough is here even outside that to draw people to visit.
There are several gazebos dotting the green fields to help shade visitors. And there are plenty of trees granting shade too. Something that really stood out to me were how nice the gazeboes are underneath. Several benches and even some artwork dot the inside. This park is a place worth going to for a small social gathering.
The other major landmark to see in this part of the park is the dock. Not only is here plenty of space for small boats like canoes and kayaks to get in the water, but the dock itself has plenty of space for people who want to simply sit and watch the river by. I didn’t stay out on the dock for long though. I heard the sounds of alligators and even a wild monkey. Both are dangerous animals that I prefer to avoid.
The Quiet Half

On the other side of Wilson’s Landing Park sits plenty of open space. There are not as many other features to talk about here. The other side is where most of the interesting stuff is. But believe it or not, more people were using this end of the park. Probably because less means more quiet. And what better use for a park than quiet.
I carefully navigated the grass as this place was home to many ant hills. And Fire Ants were among the many residents of that place. I had no interest in dealing with their painful stings. I also have learned from my current job to respect the space between yourself and a Squirrel. Many of them do not fear humans and will draw close to even attack depending on their aggression. I always try to stay safe distances from wild animals. That is how I respect them without causing harm.
Pokémon Go

Wilson’s Landing Park is a calm and isolated place in reality. But how does that translate in Pokémon Go? Surprisingly well actually. Though not a massive bustling park with Pokestops and spawns dotting the landscape, there is two Gyms here, plenty of Pokestops, and tons of spawns. Especially near the river itself. Out in the grass was not nearly as impressive. But that’s ok. Not every park is ideal for Pokémon Go, nor should they be.
I would not advise coming here for Pokémon Go alone, but should you find yourself here to go out on the river, or want to visit this quiet place for some rest, it would not hurt to open the game. You will find plenty to catch and do.
Wrap Up

Here I am in all bright pink having a good day from being out at a park. The Florida summer is fast approaching and I’ll have to choose my adventures carefully once that happens. But until then I’ll do what I can to go on plenty of adventures. There is an entire trail still to explore. And that’s just nearby this park. I wonder where my adventures will take me next?
