Exploring the World with Pokemon Go: Lake Beresford Park
For a perfect day outside, I decided to go on a hike. This time around I explored Lake Beresford Park. Its at the end of the Spring to Spring Trail North End.
At the current northern end of Spring to Spring Trial North, I found Lake Beresford Park. This location has a hiking trail of its own as well as plenty to do as far as the park itself is concerned. Right past the bathrooms and parking I found a couple spots for kids to play.
Unfortunately one of those spots was under construction and blocked off while I was here. Its my hope that those repairs and or upgrades complete soon and smoothly as possible. Public spaces are an important place for those of all ages to hang out. The least we can all do collectively is make sure all visitors can make use of the space.
Park Trail
A majority of Lake Beresford Park is a nature trail completely separate from Spring to Spring Trail. And although the land here looks a bit similar to what I found on those hikes, enough is different to stand out.
Notably, the first thing I noticed is how close to the tracks this section gets. And that’s considering the second track that was added recently that took up plenty of extra space. I’m pleased to see that the park did not have to give up land for the tracks. There is plenty of room for both.
Something else notable about the Trail here is the use of mile markers. As I have discovered, not all the trails in Volusia County, Florida have these mile markers. In fact the trail on the way here lacked them. I assume the reason is due to the park being much older than the trail. The signs reflect them, showing clear fading from age.
Into the Woods
The deepest section in the wilderness of Lake Beresford Park offered a rare silence to the several hikers and bikers that were exploring the area. Its quiet enough that you can hear movement in the underbrush as animals go about their lives, not even more than ten feet from the trail.
At one point I was even wondering if something was following me. Rustling continued right behind me for quite some time while I hiked the park trail. It wasn’t until I got a chance to think about the situation that I realized that all the noise was animals giving me plenty of space.
In addition to the greenery, there were signs of serious flooding around the park. There has been plenty of rain since the several Hurricanes hit Florida this summer. And as one happens to be heading right towards the Sunshine State as of when I am writing this post, its likely this place will be deeper underwater than the images above show.
Its a shame that there is so much flooding. This is a lovely park and I would be pleased if those reading this blog and are nearby check out some of the places I explore.
Flooding and Missed Areas
The final section of Lake Beresford Park looped me around. I didn’t quite make it back to start due to an entire section of the trail being underwater. I should have known this would happen given that sections just to the side of my hike had been submerged already.
At first I felt foolish, realizing that I would have to go back the way I came to exit the trail. There were alternative paths I could have taken but I felt that would have made my picture taking more complex than it needed to be.
These side trails would have taken me to another section of the park that I did not have time to explore. And while its a shame that I missed one small section, that shouldn’t be an issue for anyone reading this. If you are curious about what I missed, why not head to Volusia County and see this park for yourself?
Pokémon Go:
Let’s take a look at Lake Beresford Park under the Pokémon Go lens. I’ll say this right off the bat. This is a fantastic spot for spawns. Several fully evolved Pokémon spawned during my walk. And the location is also a nest. While I was here it was Noibat. But there is no guarantee it will be the same should you travel here to play. In fact I doubt it will be since you would have to visit within a month or less of me being here.
Given that the entire park was mostly a forest, it shouldn’t surprise anyone playing Pokémon Go that the entire biome was tagged as forest. Plenty of useful stuff spawns in that biome thought. Especially ones that drop extra stardust like Paras.
There were plenty of stops and gyms to restock on items as I explored the park. Notably only the extreme south side left me wanting. As for the other areas, spawns and stops were always within reach. This is a good spot to play, though not the absolute best. Still, much better than a majority of the trails.
There were several routes around the park as well. As I am trying to get a fully completed Zygarde, this was a boon to me. I don’t do enough routes, and so this mechanic I am way behind on.
Eggs
I walked 3 miles or roughly 5 Kilometers for those of you reading who know how to use proper measuring systems. And in that span I hatched plenty of eggs. None that were exciting though. Even the Jangmo-o has lost its excite factor. At least I got candy for them. Some of them have use.
Extra Goodies
For my hike, I used a blue incense as I walked around Lake Beresford Park. The Audino is the standout catch since more stardust never hurts. Noibat would have been a lot more exciting if it wasn’t spawning all around me in the first place.
Yep, Zygarde is still my buddy. I’m far on the road(s) to get him maxed out, but it takes a lot of work. I’ll still have to do tons of routes to fully unlock his potential, but at least he will be maxed out and ready to go once I manage to do so. I don’t think the legendary protector of nature minds exploring the wilds from time to time.
Its been a long time since I got to go on an adventure. A lot has happened both in the United States and in my personal life. And all that I mean above is that such things have caused me a ton of stress. And when I get stressed out, I tend to avoid doing the things that help pull me out of that place. There are almost no instances, where I won’t feel better after a walk. One of the reasons I write on this blog is to create a permanent reminder of that fact.
