Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Spring to Spring Trail North 4
I explored Spring to Spring Trail North 4 for my next adventure. I started at a bridge crossing railroad tracks, and there was plenty more to be excited about.
Spring to Spring Trail North 4 started things off with one of my favorite features on the trail. I’m talking of course about the bridge visible in every one of the pictures above.
Those who have been reading about my adventures since this blog’s conception already know that I love bridges. When I lived in Jacksonville, Florida it was one of my favorite pastimes, especially during the Covid Pandemic to go out at night and drive around the city. Not only was this responsible social distancing, but I got to do something I loved.
Naturally this bridge crossed another feature that I like a lot. Down below the bridge sit train tracks. Specifically the ones that local Amtrak and Central Florida’s Sunrail Commuter Line run on. In fact this entire section of the trail follows the tracks. I’ll be talking about that more below I’m sure.
While the bridge was behind me, there was another major feature ahead on Spring to Spring Trail North 4 for me to be excited about. Since I had checked where the trail went on Google Maps before I went on this hike, a certain surprise was already spoiled. But these pictures will let you experience what I already expected.
I’m talking about the tunnel of course. Perhaps in a past life I was a Tolkien Dwarf. I love tunnels and everything having to do with underground. In fact, I have even explored some actual caves around the world.
Florida doesn’t have many man made caves, though there are plenty of naturally forming ones. Mostly submerged in water of course. As I don’t really like the idea of cave diving while swimming, I have to settle for tunnels. Which since Florida is a giant swamp come in short supply. That means I get excited by little tunnels under streets like the one above.
The next section of the trail took me away from unique landmarks and back into what many of the trails through Volusia County Florida look like. Rather than use another section of Spring to Spring Trail North 4 to talk endlessly about seas of green trees and bogs hidden just below the ground, I’ll be lazy and let the pictures tell tens of thousands of words.
That is how that works right? I’m not really good at math. But I did stick a lot of images up there. It better be how this works.
Pokémon Go
Unfortunately my phone crashed while I was saving the picture of Spring to Spring Trail North 4 in Pokémon Go. And by the time I realized what had happened it was too late. A shame because this was by far the best section of the trail to play the game. The entire trail had routes along it in game, spawns were fairly common except in a few dead spots. And there were a lot more Pokestops along the trail during this segment than the others.
On the walk I saw almost exclusively forest habitat which makes sense since ya know that’s where I was. I didn’t see any water biomes because I was far enough away from the Saint Johns River for none of it to creep up near the trail.
All in all, if there is a section of the trail worth exploring in Pokémon Go, this has my vote for the best part. Gyms, Pokestops, plenty of spawns, and even routes. There is a lot to do here.
I hatched four eggs on my almost 7 mile walk down Spring to Spring Trail North 4. The standout was the shiny Pawniard which also had good stats. The others were sent to the professor. I assume he cuts up the Pokémon and turns them into candy. But I have no way to prove this theory.
I caught several Pokémon using the Blue Incense while walking Spring to Spring Trail North 4 . Although I used a regular one right after the 15 minutes expired. As of the time of this writing, there was an event were specific Pokémon would be encountered from Incense and they happened to include several that I needed candy for.
Zygarde will be my buddy for quite a while still. I need Large Candy to max out its level. And considering I get one of these candy every 20 Kilometers, its gonna be a long walk together. I need to do more routes to get it into its maxed out form too.
Here I am wearing this fairly tacky hat. But the sunshine state has lots of sun bearing down in me so I have no choice. It was a good thing to go on a hike again. The heat has kept me away but the summer has ended and the Florida heat will soon fade with it. Once that happens I’ll be going on more hikes.
