Centrum Glacies Session 62: Ghosts
Week 62 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues as the party triggers a curse and is attacked by Ghosts.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. You can check out the first one here.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing in the book series.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.
Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group recently was incinerated in lava. But rather than die, they have been transformed into Demons. And every moment they have to resist a bloodlust that is trying to take hold.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
The party with Obrom added, talked amongst themselves about how foolish Teztcal was. Trent believed him to be a Cult of Obsidian Spy. Meanwhile Obrom agreed with Jyona that the Dragon was far too foolish to have that sort of role.
Jyona offered to augment Trent’s longbow. That way even without his Druid powers, he would be able to fight should they run into Platinum Adventurers or worse. He still didn’t like that he had been cut off from what had been his entire life’s dedication.
Teztcal sniffed out Zinbella’s presence and she appears. It was almost like magic. Or perhaps she had grown impatient of waiting. There really wasn’t a way to know.
Druid Trial
She somehow combined Trent’s two staves into one making it much easier for him to use the powers of either. And added another ability to its already impressive list. He initially was cautious given what had happened the last time she had added an ability to a staff.
This time though, Jyona didn’t detect any of the Psychic Vampire’s essence in the staff. While that was a relief, what she instructed Trent to do was not. The extra ability she had added would allow him to make use of Spore Druid Magic.
Specifically, he would need to use the staff to reanimate corpses. Trent was not happy with the task she has given him. After all, he viewed Necromancy of all kinds as an affront to what it meant to be a Druid.
Zinbella reminded him that as an Arch Druid, what was and was not an affront of life was for her to decide. And depowered as he was, he didn’t really have any ground to argue on. She left as suddenly as she appeared. As usual with the Psychic Vampire.
A Well Deserved Rest
After all those events, Trent asked the party if they could rest for a few days before they set off to save the Mermaids. None of the others had an issue with this. And so they headed to the Lower City Inn. Unlike some of the nicer places they had stayed, this inn had no lobby and each of the rooms was entered from outside.
Once they were all situated, Jyona once more attempted to study Obrom’s hand. But something went horribly wrong while trying to analyze it. The warm air changed, leaving a chill in the air. And Ghosts attacked through the walls.
Ghosts
The party fought back as best they could. Obrom demonstrated he was capable in battle. But one of his Eldritch Blasts misfired and accidentally hit Jyona instead. She grew more hardened as yet another horrible event in a seemingly nonstop chain of them occurred.
Meanwhile, one of the Ghosts seemingly angry at Teztcal managed to scare him shitless. Unfortunately, the Ghost didn’t realize what that meant. In his terror, the Dragon fled the main room but cast two separate fireball spells into it. Not only did this erase a Ghost, but it also completely decimated the bedroom and basically everything in it.
Once the Ghosts were dealt with, Trent asked Obrom if there were any other secrets he was keeping. The Bard sighed and apologized for not telling them about the cursed mark. With that out of the way, there was another issue to attend to.
Aftermath
Trent tells Tetzcal the obsidian spy should pay for all the damage to the bedroom for it and points at him. Teztcal looked shocked. Apparently he didn’t see anything he had done as wrong. But the issue was resolved rather quickly. Turned out the staff were used to their property being damaged. They told the party not to worry about it.
Trent wasn’t sure if the Innkeepers just feared upsetting several Platinum Adventurers or if they were being truthful. Either way, at least they would not be getting into trouble for Teztcal’s most recent stupid choices.
Speaking of stupid choices, the Dragon said something about not trusting the bard. Tetzca then failed to cast Mass Suggestion on Obrom. Turned out the Bard had a strong will and wouldn’t be controlled so easily.
The same did not hold true for the deluded Dragon. Jyona did not have the patience to deal with him right now and put him to sleep with one of her own spells.
With Teztcal in time out for the time being, the rest gathered their thoughts and rested. Jyona worked through the night though and didn’t sleep as much. Instead, she was ready to present Trent with runes that made his bow much stronger. In addition, she had completed some Dragonscale Armor, made from some of the scales from that White Dragon they had fought.
Wrap Up
The next day, Teztcal ran off somewhere. And the party feared what he might be up to.
