Centrum Glacies Session 49: Devils Vs Devils
Week 49 in 2022 of this Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues with Devils taking on other Devils.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. You can check out the first one here.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing in the book series.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.
Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group recently was incinerated in lava. But rather than die, they have been transformed into Demons. And every moment they have to resist a bloodlust that is trying to take hold.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
After leaving Zrin once more, the party delivered the food to the Light of the Abyss Soldiers. It was nice that at least one faction on the Abyssal Continent wasn’t completely hostile to them.
And the party returned their kindness. The soldiers stationed in the Eastern Jungle of Giants had given the party funds to get them rations. And the (maybe) kindly shopkeeper had given Trent a discount when he bought those rations. Rather than pocket the extra money, the party returned the extra coin to the soldiers.
With that act, the soldiers stationed along the towers said they wouldn’t forget the party’s kindness. Probably a good thing to have earned the respect of one of the most disciplined fighting forces on the Abyssal Continent. And not anywhere near as corrupt as the Zrin Guards. Also unlike most of Zrin, the party was not being discriminated against despite looking like Devils.
Before they headed south towards where they needed to go next, a few of the soldiers warned them that away from the path, they had seen movement. Normally the Circle of Cleansing killed whatever avoided the watch towers. But the Druids were active to the east which might have allowed something to get through.
When they made it to the next watchtower, the Light of Abyss troops stationed there asked for help. Apparently monsters kept attacking the tower. And it didn’t take long for more to appear. Demons of course. The Abyssal Continent was crawling with them after all.
Devil Attack
But since the party was made of Devils as well, it was almost like attacking their own kind. But something struck them as odd. The Light of the Abyss soldiers were protected from the monsters by a magical barrier. They were in no danger even from several waves of monsters. So why were they asking for help?
The party had fought plenty of Demons at this point, but that didn’t mean they were protected from attacks. And while the soldiers fought from the tower, the group dealt with attacks head on. Jyona was once more surrounded by enemies and almost killed. This seemed to be a recurring problem.
Her Demon form was not meant for fighting though, which was a draw back. But even more so, it turned out there was another problem with her more powerful form. It couldn’t be healed by weaker spells. And despite the Mages fighting with the Soldiers above who tried their best to heal her, it didn’t work.
Instead Jyona turned invisible to protect herself. The rest of the party was in more combat viable forms and had less trouble with wave after wave of Devils. But would they have to keep killing? Or would these waves stop? And why were all these monsters converging here?
Wrap Up
Hopefully they get some answers soon. Apparently they are near the hidden Demon Town. And once they find it, they may finally have a way to turn back to normal.
