Centrum Glacies 2023 Session 42: Jarrar

Admin/ February 9, 2023/ Books, Dungeons and Dragons

Week 42 in 2022 of this Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues with the party finally confronting Jarrar.

Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. However I’m still working on that project. Give it some time.

Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing once the book series starts hitting virtual and real shelves.

!!!Trigger Warning!!!

This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.

Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group at large is currently succumbing to magical wounds that appear to be turning them into Demons.

!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!

Deep inside the earth on the Abyssal Continent, the party rampaged through a Cult of Obsidian base. Killing every Cultist in their way, or feeding on them in the case of Adrenne. Not that Trent approved of this behavior. But what he didn’t know didn’t bother her.

But all those Cultists were simple cannon fodder that stood between them and Jarrar. Would they kill him? Or would they let him live. The party might very well decide the fate of the entire Dark Elf Race based on that decision. But they had to deal with Jarrar before any of that could play out.

Confronting Jarrar:

They eventually reached Jarrar. He seemed a little too eager for someone that almost everyone here had killing intent towards. Then again, this Dark Elf had outplayed them several times now. Maybe it was confidence born of experience.

Well Trent wasn’t about to make that mistake again. He shifted into an Earth Elemental and had no intention of letting the Dark Elf have his way with them.

Adrene and Malcolm fought back other Cultists who tried to join the battle. They had less stakes in the outcome of this fight compared to the others.

But though he put up a fight, it was starting to look like Trent and Jyona truly had earned the right to be Platinum Adventurers. Seeing that he was seemingly backed into a corner, and worried that something was off, Malcolm rushed to the main fight, ready to deal with whatever Jarrar had planned.

And so when he fell over in defeat, wasting his breath asking why the party would be so stupid as to kill him and doom their entire race, Malcom prepared a defensive spell. Sure enough it was well warranted.

Transformation:

Jarrar started laughing. Not something anyone on deaths door would normally do. Naturally the Dark Elf was far from it. Instead he melted into fire as he transformed. Turned out he was already a Demon. How long had he been one? The party knew that people could turn into Demons now. But that didn’t explain how Jarrar was capable of it.

He hadn’t gone feral either like most of the Demons they had fought. This was more like Niston and Xobis. And with the ability to speak, he explained why he was laughing. The Cult of Obsidian knew about the lava redirection. And it was heading this way right now.

The doors into this room all shut. There was no way out. Lava was coming. And Jarrar was already giving off enough heat in his Demon form that the air became hard to breath and the skin on the party’s arms began to burn.

Wrap Up:

They appear to be in much worse trouble than they thought. They won’t be able to decide Jarrar’s fate if he kills them first.
