Cycle of Millennia 2022 Session 41: Eleth
Here is week 41 of my 2022 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. As the party makes their way to the Dragons, they ran into Eleth, one of the most powerful Demon Lords in the setting.
Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.
!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!
This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.
There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.
Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.
!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!
The Party continued following Rose and Belywn through the maze. At long last the two Dragons stated that they had made it through the canyon. Soon they would enter the realm of Dragons. Rose started talking about how to not get into trouble when they got there, but she was interrupted.
A powerful Demon Lord appeared and helped answer why all those Dracanoids had fled. Caethia and Furavel had decided to cause trouble in Innoiva. Meanwhile, Eleth the third of their group had remained here all these years waiting for the party. And unlike her two companions, she had no intention of messing with them. She intended to kill them all and send their souls to be tormented by Kranaak forever.
Knowing just how dangerous this Demon was, the entire group sprang into action. Hadron shifted into a massive Dragon to match Eleth who did the same. Grez used his artificial moon to transform into a giant ape. Velkoara also assumed a larger form. They needed the extra strength to deal with whatever this monster decided to do.
Facing a Demon Lord:
Eleth was an ancient Berserker Knight which meant she absorbed holy and unholy energy. But she also could bend space to manipulate her attacks. Something that turned deadly when she breathed fire and directed the entire attack at Caic. A concentrated blast almost killed him instantly.
Worse, as a former Paladin, Eleth had an aura that not only blotted out the Dwarf’s own but also damaged the entire party constantly. While Caethia had more tricks up her sleeve, the Dragon Demon they fought now was a no nonsense foe and intended to kill immediately and efficiently.
Caic decided to get in on the fun after his most recent near death experience. He couldn’t transform like the others, but he could summon something large. For the second time in this adventure he called forth his chosen mount. And due to Entropy’s strange power, he had bonded with a Wasp that had eyes all over its body.
Eleth shifted between multiple Dragon forms and her attacks only grow more extreme and complex as the group continued fighting and refused to die. The Demon Dragon only grew more frustrated that they continued to survive. Belwyn who had not encountered her before couldn’t believe that a Demon had slain and absorbed the souls of so many Dragons.
Victory at a Cost:
After a fierce battle with most of the group severely weakened or out of spells, the party defeated Eleth. Unlike Caethia and Furavel who were fond of fleeing before defeat, Eleth had battled until her body was destroyed. But she wouldn’t die. Her dark soul existed in Kranaak’s realm and she could not be destroyed permanently.
Despite vanishing from this plane, Eleth had a parting gift for the group. She refused to be defeated without doing something. As was her nature. Much more evil than chaotic compared to her allies, she found a way to spread misery to the party.
She separated the party into two groups. And one of them didn’t include any dragons. Without Rose or Belwyn, what will the party do when they meet the Dragons face to face? Will they be killed after coming this far?
Wrap Up:
Without a guide, the group is in the dark. And Innovia’s politics was almost the end of them. What will happen when they encounter ancient Dragons?
