Cycle of Millennia 2021 Session 35: Raining Corpses

Admin/ December 13, 2021/ Books, Dungeons and Dragons

Here is week 35 of my 2021 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. A monster from nightmare causes raining corpses.

Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.

!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!

This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.

There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.

Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.

!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!

Party emerged from the Charice Dream World and returned to the ritual area. They once more tried to stop Luciano from completing the summoning. Meanwhile he asked sounding ashamed wondering what had happened to the orphans. He had not realized the group was willing to kill them to escape.

But it was too late. The Charice Faithful completed their spell. And with Innias’ added power, the portal in the middle of the room swelled. Unfortunate that the party ended up being right. The Charice Faithful learned right then and there that Eldritch Magic was not something that could be controlled.

The Charice Faithful and even the countless Angels that they attended to were pulled into the portal. Their bodies all pressed into an extremely dense spot in the middle. Too many screams to count blocked out all other sound. But their bodies didn’t disintegrate. Something much worse happened.

The sky darkened and the moon took on a red hue. The unstable forces at work caused a lunar eclipse and the mass of corpses started to move on its own. An unnamed creature stirred from where there had once been countless individuals. And there was no way to properly describe the monstrosity that the party now faced.

Fighting Nightmares:

Realizing that he no longer had control of the situation, Luciano demanded that the remaining Charice Faithful help him close the portal and banish this creature away from where it came. Unfortunately, Nihilinn struck then. The summoners that flanked the entire room revealed who they truly served. Realizing that he had been played, the leader of the Charice Faithful begged the party to help him remedy this situation.

While Innias, Luciano, and Denessa worked to close the portal, the party had no choice but to fight a creature their brains couldn’t fathom. Simply looking at it caused them pain. Their bodies tried to take them far away. But there was nowhere to flee.

Still this group wasn’t going to give up. They had fought through horrors unimaginable. They had gone into Kranaak’s abyss and survived. Through cruel trial they had survived Orabaras’ games. The party had most recently been forced to kill three children who had done nothing wrong but hope for a better future. They couldn’t lose now. Otherwise everything they did up till now would have been pointless.

While Grez fought the creature head on, the rest of the group fought from range and tried to kill the summoners. Caic and Velkora both realized that like most minions of Nihilinn, these Necromancers were protected by an impenetrable shield.

Routing the Enemy:

After weakening the monster though, the Nihilinn Necromancers lost their shields. The party made quick work of them while fending of ranged attacks from the horrible creature. It spit blood at them. Summoned raining corpses from the sky. It even filled the entire area with acid that burned the flesh off the party.

Velkora and Caic also got to make it through this fight while on drugs. Drugs that amplified all the terrifying abilities of this eldritch horror. They almost fell alongside the Summoners.

Still, they won. As they tended to when it counted. Unfortunately, while Innias, Luciano, and Denessa had managed to weaken the portal, the unknown horror managed to tear it open one last time as it faded. The party got pulled towards the center by intense gravity. Even Grez couldn’t ignore it despite his magic runes.

They were not the only ones to get pulled into that portal. Denessa and Luciano managed to grab hold of strong stone. But Innias was not so lucky. The powerful archangel joined the group as the world around them faded. Their destination was unknown.

Wrap Up:

Where have they ended up this time? Given what came out of that portal, it can’t be anything good. The group isn’t safe yet. And they have a hostile angel to deal with.
