Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Seminole Wekiva Trail 11
Seminole Wekiva Trail 11 marked the final part of my journey down this trail. Let’s see what I found.
Mile Marker 16.0:
The first part of Seminole Wekiva Trail 11 started right near the trailhead and mountain bike park that I started from last time. I just moved the opposite direction.
Swampland to my right. Forest and road to my left. Little changed from my last adventure. Even the fancy neighborhoods that periodically appeared were just like the ones from my last adventure. I guess its a sign that things are winding down?
Mile Marker 16 sat right near the start. Hard to believe I have traveled this far on the trail. As it turned out, I was less than a mile from the end.
Mile Marker 16.25:
As I continued down Seminole Wekiva Trail 11 and ultimately towards the end of this journey, I reflected heavily on everything leading up to this. Its surreal to think that I discovered this trail before I moved to Jacksonville. Covid 19 hadn’t been on anyone’s mind back then.
Equally surreal is the fact that I started exploring this trail months ago. My life has changed a lot since then. I spent most of the walk thinking about some of those changes. Unlike my last few adventures, I finally managed to go out in the morning. The world feels different when the sun hasn’t been out so long. Its less hot too.
Little did I know that Mile Marker 16.25 would be the last one on this journey along a paved trail. Up ahead, the scenery was about to change. And in a drastic way.
Mile Marker 16.5:
This next section is where the trail made it crystal clear that Seminole Wekiva Trail 11 was the ultimate end of the trail. The paved road stopped. I initially was scared of the gate, but realized that such a barrier exists to prevent cars not walkers from coming down the trail.
I left the beaten path and ultimately walked down grass. The dirt was home to many insects and they were quite happy to let me know that this was there home and I was an invader. Wekiva Springs is a beautiful place and is a habitat for countless animals and plants.
Mile Marker 16.5 was almost completely reclaimed by vegetation. Its the most obstructed of all the mile marker signs on the entire trail. I almost missed a couple of the markers on my journey, but none were quite so well hidden as this one.
Mile Marker 16.8. The End:
Here it is. The very end of Seminole Wekiva Trail 11. Ultimately, this is the end of the trail. I am a bit disgusted by how much garbage is on the ground around that sign. Pre Covid 19 days, I would have picked up some of it and thrown it away. But I don’t want to touch other people’s waste now a days. I really want to know what sort of jerk litters in a state park. Especially on a trail that takes effort to get to this point.
That aside, it was neat to know that all that stood between me and the Wekiva River below was a hill. I unfortunately, did not get any good pictures of that. As I mentioned earlier, the bugs were telling me that I was unwelcome here. I didn’t stay as long as I wanted to.
Mile Marker 16.8 marks the end of the Seminole Wekiva Trail. I stood in Wekiva Springs itself and it was quite a journey to get here. I won’t forget it. There are no regrets.
No matter where I choose to adventure next, I’ll remember the journey down Seminole Wekiva Trail fondly. From the tunnels and Interstate 4 view, to the ultimate end here at Wekiva, this was an unforgettable journey.
Pokémon Go:
Let’s talk about the final section of Seminole Wekiva Trail in Pokémon Go. Seminole Wekiva Trail 11 had a healthy showing in game. While there were not a lot of stops, nonstop spawns every step of the way made up for it. This segment of the trail is really meant for hiking. Multiple sections near here had poor phone reception. Not the idea conditions for Pokemon Go.
The parks that I visited along the way are the best spots to play the game. Explore the trail if you choose, I won’t stop you. Why would I? But the parks are the place to go for a pure Pokémon Go experience.
I hatched an Absol while finishing my journey down Seminole Wekiva Trail 11. I hope that is not an ill omen. This Pokémon exists to warn others of impending misfortune.
As I promised, this Axew completed the journey with me. It seemed a lot less irritated by the bugs than I was. Being a baby dragon and all, the world is a new and mysterious place to it. Bugs included.
Wrap Up:
Here is my smiling face at the end of my journey down Seminole Wekiva Trail. Its been quite an experience. I’m so happy to have checked this place out. I don’t regret deciding on this project. Who knows where else I’ll get to explore?
Well I do know what I plan on doing next. There is another trail that I thought I had completed years ago. Turns out its a bit longer than I thought. Look forward to something exciting soon. I’ll be checking out something new, but really old.
