Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Alexandria Oaks Park
Returning to daytime adventures, I traveled to the San Marco region of Jacksonville Florida where there are plenty of parks. I started with Alexandria Oaks Park.
Alexandria Oaks Park is a wide open park with a trail that loops the entire area. Between the walkways stand plenty of open fields dotted with trees. Not all of them oak trees despite the name. At least I don’t think they are all oak trees. I’m not versed on trees.
I saw a few people walking their dogs as I traveled the path. This seems like the perfect place to take pets. Plenty of space combined with quiet green fields is perfect for the pet parents too.
Alexandria Oaks Park also features a small creek that runs through the middle. The path follows the creek closely, but doesn’t get too close. A good thing too. I didn’t forget the warning at a nearby park about bacteria in the water. While I didn’t see one here, that doesn’t mean that I can freely step into this water.
Plenty of trees dot the landscape. I know I have mentioned the serene atmosphere already but that was what stood out the most to me while visiting. Considering that downtown Jacksonville’s skyline is almost visible from here, that is no small thing.
Perfect Day:
It was a perfect day when I visited Alexandria Oaks Park. Most of my pictures thus far have focused on the trees and ground. But sky visibility matters too at places like this. Its creates what I find to be amazing images. Of course I’m not a professional photographer. So results might vary.
I noticed that there are some trees growing here. That always makes me smile. Too many trees are getting cut down around the world and not being replaced. I know a couple trees in a small park won’t help fix the damage done by the vanishing Amazon Rainforest, but its the thought that counts.
Alexandria Oaks Park uses its space well with trees and open spots. Taking photos really helps highlight the spots that are shaded and the ones that are open to the sun. One does not need to go far for shade. Notably, I came here in the middle of the day as opposed to the morning when I normally travel to parks.
I also saw more younger trees in this section of the park. That’s a couple more growing trees than I knew about before I came here. Never a problem.
Traveling to the final area of Alexandria Oaks saw more of the same. Nothing wrong with that though. I enjoyed my time here walking down the trail and going in and out of shade and sun. I imagine once the Covid 19 Pandemic comes to an end, this park will see a lot more traffic. Its in a good area that is easy to access for many people.
Pokémon Go:
I explored Alexandria Oaks Park in realty. Let’s talk about the park under the lens of Pokémon Go. In this context, the park is average overall. There were plenty of spawns, but only two Pokestops. I have visited parks that were worse. Some places have no spawns or stops.
The main selling point of this park is that several others are all within walking distance. San Marco itself has plenty of Pokestops and the entire area is safely walkable. I’ll be investigating the individual parks, but do not discount the whole region all together.
I walked the necessary distance to evolve this Eevee into an Umbreon. You might see them one last time as I wait for night. If I do another post, be sure to say farewell to them. It will be their last time on the blog, but not the last time I use them in game.
Alexandria Oaks Park was relatively empty, so I didn’t need to wear my mask while here. I still had it in my pocket though. I promise I’m not being negligent in stopping the spread.
Wrap Up:
Next time I’ll be checking out another park in San Marco. There are quite a few to choose from. I’ll be sure to surprise everyone with my choice.
