Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Gaston Edwards Park
After my not so great adventure last time, I moved on to another nearby complex of parks. I started with Gaston Edwards Park. Let’s see what I discovered.
Gaston Edwards Park sits on the east bank of Lake Ivanhoe. Thanks in part to multiple roads and Interstate 4, the lake itself is divided up into sections. And each of these places has another park that I will be checking out.
It was a beautiful day and the water was clear. This is despite the construction happening on the nearby Interstate. While I am sure it is not intentional, I am certain pollutants are entering the lake.
Despite Gaston Edwards Park being located on a lake, most of the photo worthy places are actually on the shore. There is plenty of shade and sunshine. The combination of trees and fields create an atmosphere that I have not seen in a park for quite some time.
Not far from Downtown Orlando, this region is similar to the Urban Trail where both machine and nature mix in an interesting blend. One might notice the workout machines showcased above. This is another one of those places where it is perfect to create a workout routine.
The mix of man and nature becomes more apparent as one rounds the bend around the lake. While I am still located within Gaston Edward’s Park, Interstate 4 is very visible across the lake. Meanwhile signs showcasing boating events and other happenings in the area begin making their appearances.
Yet, none of these things manage to mar the beauty here. The natural aspects of Gaston Edwards Park remain in a proper state. Perhaps that I part of the appeal of coming here in the first place.
Around the Bend:
As I reached the other end of the park, I was able to see the Orlando City Skyline across Lake Ivanhoe. Interstate 4 was within walking distance as well. Though given the nature of the road, I would not advise going there on foot. I am unsure how the construction will impact this area. After all the road is being widened by a massive degree.
I also want to draw attention to the boating sign pictured above. While I am certainly no boater I understand the meaning of a no wake zone. However, I do not understand the purpose of pointing out that the entire region is a no wake zone. Perhaps a simple sign by the water would have sufficed?
Also those birds later tried to attack me. I wisely backed off when they showed their fury as I got to close to the food they were consuming. I guess I have become so used to the relatively friendly birds at Lake Eola. These were not cut from the same feathers.
Pokemon Go:
In massive contrast to my last adventure, Gaston Edwards Park is a fantastic place to play Pokemon Go. The spawns are plentiful and despite the bug event going on right now in game, I saw plenty of other mons.
There are also plenty of Pokestops and Gyms. Certainly check this place out. The combination of beauty and great potential to catch mons make this park an obvious destination.
I hatched two more eggs between my last post and this one. Both of them were worthwhile additions. Special mention to the Croagunk. when it hatched, I finally gained the ability to evolve one into Toxicroak.
I still have more parks to explore in this region. Here is to hooping they will be equal to or even better than this one.
