Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Downtown College Park
I wanted to do something different. Rather than explore a park by day, I went to Downtown College Park at night for a completely new experience.
When the sun goes down, all the city lights come on. Downtown College Park has a night life all its own. While Downtown Orlando is an extremely wacky place to be on a Friday night, here things are much more low key.
Unlike many others, including those who write travel blogs, I enjoy being in urban environments. While I cannot dismiss the natural beauty that parks have, as well as their appeal to many, I have a deep love for city skylines. Being surrounded by buildings does not feel me with anxiety like others. The same goes for looking at expressways. If I had been better at math, I might have become an industrial engineer.
Back to what I saw, apartments in an urban area have an appeal to me. One of my dreams is to live in a downtown district. While certainly not cheap, living in a place like College Park, it is much more realistic than Downtown Orlando. You might see more about that in the future.
I want to give special mention to the building with the purple lights in the above picture. The many colored lights are part of why I love cities so much. The noise does not bother me, and I am willing to go out into the country to see stars if I truly desire to avoid light pollution for a while.
Plenty to Do:
I grew up in a suburban sprawl near Chicago, Illinois. And I always hated it. The fact that one needs a car to travel places has always bothered me. I dream of the ability to walk outside and have plenty to do by foot. Gone are the days where people would go in their cars for entertainment. That stuff has become more expensive and as this blog post has no doubt showcased, I am a writer. That means I am poor in case you did not figure that out.
Downtown College Park has plenty to do in a small area. From restaurants, to parks, and even a few small art studios, I would not need a car to enjoy my time here. I would just need to live here first.
Sorry for the blurry photos by the way. I sometimes only had a few seconds to try and snap a photo. As always, I do my best to avoid getting people in my pictures. But since I was here on a Friday night, that was easier said than done.
Pokemon Go:
Downtown College Park is pretty impressive in Pokemon Go too. There plenty of spawns, multiple Pokemon Gyms, and of course Pokestops. Since downtown areas are filled with people, the game is filled with areas to catch little critters. And don’t worry about that park in the above image. I’ll be exploring it soon. It has some features that require a post all its own.
I hatched two more critters between this post and my last one. But they are both very common Pokemon so it was not a really big deal.
