Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Kittinger Park

Right next door to Lake Underhill Park lies a much better hidden locale.  Though most who drive down Toll Road 408 see the jet fighter statue that stands in one of the corners, most do not see the park surrounding it.  Today, in Pokemon Go, I set out to take a look.

From the parking lot, I stepped towards the path way that walks around the Kittinger Park.  The area follows the theme of aviation.  This makes sense considering Orlando Executive Airport is right nearby.  It is visible on the horizon  in this photo.

These two pictures were taken at different points along the path.  The airport becomes easier to see as one moves farther from the parking lot.  Multiple planes took off as I walked.  I can understand the appeal of those who love airplanes to visit this location.

Right here should be a relatively unassuming sight. This strip of land serves as a way for water gathered at the nearby airport to drain to the nearby lake.  However to the animals that make Lake Underhill their home, it is much more. In the photo, multiple birds are making use of the rocky area.

On the opposite side of Kittinger Park from where I started lies this playground.  It offers a chance for children to play while their parents get to watch airplanes. I also noticed that there was a loud speaker broadcasting something.  I was unsure if it was radio talk from the nearby airport or some prerecorded messages. Either way, it was a nice touch.

The Plane:

I eventually reached the most well known part of this park.  This jet statue is visible from Toll Road 408. I learned while reading the nearby plaque that this is a commemoration of the Vietnam War.  Also, this spot is a Pokemon Gym in Go.

Right beside the Airplane Monument, this little spot by Lake Underhill offered a great view of local wildlife.  There were many birds all gathered probably feeding on the same fish from yesterday.  You can see them as a black spot on the water in this image.  Also, on the right side is the same 408 bridge.  Only I am now on the opposite side.

Pictured here is the path that leads back to my starting location.  On the left side you can see a nearby South Street as well as the wall that marks Toll Road 408.  On the right side, a fence blocks the entire center area of the park.  I am unsure as to why this area is restricted.

Here are pictures of the fenced off part of Kittinger Park.  Sadly, one area of the open field is filled to the brim with garbage.  Given the fact that this entire area has no access, I imagine that cleanup will be quite difficult.

Pokemon Go:

Kittinger Park and the nearby Lake Underhill Park could not be more different.  This is odd considering their close proximity. In fact the other park is even visible on this map, just past the multiple rows of roads that mark Toll Road 408 as well as its two frontage streets.

I did not encounter a single wild Pokemon in Kittinger Park.  I would advise against coming here for Pokemon Go alone as a result. Even the nearby Pokestop and Gym did not have any spawns.  I found this very unusual.  Luckily, Lake Underhill Park is right next door and a much better option for playing.

I managed to hatch three eggs in rapid succession at the end of my adventure.  Sadly none of them had stats worth holding onto them.  Hopefully, my next park explored will be more viable for Pokemon Go.  They can’t all be winners I suppose.
