Dungeons and Dragons Day 23: Dinner Party Part 4

Return to the Servant’s Quarters:

As the final act of the dinner party began, tensions were high. Hadron, the Barbarian/Warlock wanted to do whatever Antoinette said if it meant keeping his head. Grez, the Monk did not want to work with any of the corrupt nobles..  Sigvard, the Death Knight was willing to entertain Rose’s opinion as a third option. Caic, the Paladin intended to use all the power at his disposal to protect his new friends. He hoped that being a Trollbreaker would carry weight.  Not to mention the fact that he was a Paladin of Exscutchon as thus a hero of the world.

The dark whispers surrounding Gonk troubled the group and they decided to investigate the truth.  Seeking out the Dwarf, he asked if they would return to the Servant’s Quarters.  A good thing that he made such a request as Daznock, the leader of house Runebrewer demanded they do so as well. Feeling cornered, and not sure what to do, the group left the party hall once again, dreading what would happen when they returned. Gonk joined them.S Sigvard stayed behind, wanting to keep a close watch on the situation.

What Hides Under Armor:

The sleeping quarters had not been explored in their prior adventure here.  And as Caic used his Divine Sense to see what stirred nearby, the group prepared to fight Vampire Spawn and Demons. The Undead Servants attacked first, and the group was forced to fight up the stairs.  As they finally reached the rooms, a great melee happened as battle was joined by Demons, Vampires, and the party.  All three sides wished for the destruction of the other two.

Slaying the Undead first almost led to a fatal mistake.  The Demons had mosquito like creatures in their ranks.  The horrific monsters constantly emitted a sonic pulse that stunned all nearby. However, unknown to the rest of the group, Hadron had been stunned by a very different source.  His constant switching had exposed him to some form of madness, and his mind withdrew, long before the sonic wave hit.  The party save the Paladin failed to resist and if not for Gonk getting a second wind and helping him, the group would have perished there.

Things were not done yet though, another group of both Undead and Demons appeared and trapped the party in a pincer attack.  Before anyone could react, one of the Vampires attempted to turn Gonk into a snack.  The creature bit into Gonk’s armor and the group dreaded what would happen to their friend.

“I have no choice.” Gonk whispered, and as the armor broke, the Dwarf swelled to a larger size.  The vampire got its face ripped off as the rumors of another Were Boar rang true. Once the final enemies were slain, Gonk charged towards the kitchens, away from the party.  The rest of the group proceeded to search the quarters for any major clues.

A Chain of Reveals:

What they found was just what was needed.  The Demon’s bore Kranaak’s symbol! And the Vampires had the Queen’s sigil. Now, the party had a way out, and returned to the dinner party with freedom on their mind.  Grez did not want to help either faction and prepared to reveal the full truth about both of those vying for the throne.

The Vampire called them aside sensing their intent.  None of the party cared.  They had enough with this intrigue.  None wanted to see a dwarf ever again.  Antoinette had other plans.  She revealed herself as a Vampire and forced Fodrin to reveal his Demon army.  The entire banquet hall transformed into an uproar of shouts and violence.

“It is time for you all to leave now.  Enjoy your front row seat of the Apocalypse!” Antoinette managed to call out to the party as a parting gift.  Her final bout of mischief manifested as familiar tentacled figures appeared. The Mindflayers managed to hit the party with a psychic blast and the dinner hall vanished.

Angels:

When the world stopped spinning, the party found themselves in a strange place.  The sun heavily illuminated the land, but a strange texture was a reminder that this was not the normal world. Also not normal was the winged figure flying towards them at high speed.  Gonk reacted first, and drew his weapons.  The Were Boar was ready for a fight, but Caic told everyone to stop.

“That is an Angel of my God.  He means us no harm!”

As it turned out, the Paladin was very wrong. “Invaders of Kranaak!” The Angel shouted and rose its infused Weapon.

Grez had serious trouble against the Holy Being due to his energy blasts being made from the same stuff. He was forced to rely on punches as soon as he discovered that his foe shrugged off such attacks. Hadron ended up being the first target.  This was problematic as the Barbarian/Warlock was hit with another bout of madness.  He was quickly knocked unconscious.

Gonk was next to be targeted.  In a spectacular display of magic, the Angel snapped his fingers and the Were Boar became a Dwarf once again. But despite his strength being lowered, Gonk managed to avoid the furious strikes from the Angel.  This gave Grez the opportunity to defeat the holy being.

Captured:

No one could believe their eyes as the Angel fell in defeat.  Caic groaned as he watched the majestic being die.  He felt that this was a betrayal to his God. And that kill did not go unnoticed. Many more Angels revealed themselves and the party was forced to surrender in their weakened states.

They group was free of the dinner party, but instead of walking into freedom, they found themselves in an even worse prison.  Where did they end up?  And they all knew that the great calamity was coming.  With just one day remaining, they grew more worried than when they had first seen the Dwarven City. Something seriously bad was about to go down.
