Dungeons and Dragons Day 8: Many Cantrips

Admin/ March 4, 2018/ Dungeons and Dragons

The Tournament Continues:

The second to last round of the tournament began and to set it off, the Barbarian Warlock fought Gonk the Warrior in a vicious battle.  Though countless blows were traded, ultimately the Barbarian Warlock was victorious. This knocked the Dwarven Warrior into the under tournament.

Next up was the Death Knight who kept his undefeated streak thanks to the Paladin deciding to leave the tournament.  He continued onward eager to win it all.

The third match was the Monk against Rose.  Despite feelings of hatred towards the Sorceress, it did not lower his mental defenses to the point where her Charm Person Spell would connect. The Monk gave Rose the bird indicating how he felt about her. Firing two Ki Blasts accurately at the Sorceress, he put her on the ropes.  However, a third attack bounced and ended up hitting the Monk in the nuts. Rose retaliated with a Firebolt which enraged the Monk.  He fought back with a flurry of blows.  Sadly, it was not enough for the Monk to win as another Firebolt ended the match in Rose’s favor.

Rangar the Barbarian ended up fighting the Psionic, or would have, but the man was still missing.  A free win for him.

More Zombies:

After the battles, and very frustrated with his loss, the Monk decided to spend the day training. He was joined the Death Knight and the Barbarian Warlock.

Meanwhile, the Necromancer decided to learn more about the Mysterious Shopkeeper.  However, while snooping around, he managed to lose the sketchy fellow.  The reverse did not hold true though.  The Necromancer fought Zombie Baboons while continuing to snoop around.  He finally found what he sought.  In his haste, the shopkeeper had left an important document on the ground.  A slip of paper that informed the Necromancer of a special gathering.  All he needed to do was provide a password: Boa.  On his way out, he was attacked by more undead.  This time a Zombie Hound and its former Master.  After a very close call, where the Necromancer was almost killed, he defeated these adversaries, and prepared for the nights events.

Under Tournament: Round 2

That night, the Under-tournament second round began in full swing. The Necromancer attempted to trail the Shady Shopkeeper, certain that the man had tried to kill him earlier in the day.  He succeeded in being undetected, but the Shopkeeper possessed a key that let him move around the arena with ease.  Annoyed, he went and spoke to Orengar, who indicated he knew more about what was going on.  The Rogue indicated that he knew a sinister origin of his race, and also spoke about another not so sneaky Rogue who liked to slip things in people’s drinks.

Little happened on the other side of the stands and soon enough, the second round of the under tournament was in full swing.  This time, Naked Monk, and Orengar were forced to fight against a horde of monsters.  Many said creatures were exotic enough that none of the Player characters recognized them.

The entire crew went out drinking afterwards and the group formally got introduced to the Necromancer.

Semifinals:

The next day marked the semifinals of the entire tournament. The first match was between Rose and the Warlock/Barbarian who had had minimal contact before this battle. It turned into a battle of attrition as both combatants were reduced to using cantrips on each other.  Firebolt from Rose, and Eldritch Blast from the Warlock/Barbarian.  Unfortunately for the Barbarian, his skills were more melee oriented, and Rose ended up the victor.

The second battle was the Monk vs the Psionic. The Psionic still had not made an appearance, and so, the Monk managed to make it to the final round despite fears to the contrary.

The third and final battle of the Semifinals was the Death Knight vs the Barbarian Rangar.  It turned into another battle of attrition as both combatants traded serious blows.  Between the enraged Barbarian and the powerful Rune Strikes of the Death Knight, the two combatants were near evenly matched.  Or rather, they would have been, but the Death Knight had a secret.  He was still doing drugs, and this extra boost to his combat scored him a close victory.

More Income:

The Monk was pissed that he did not get to fight a real match and so dueled people around Iron for money.  The Death Knight decided to do likewise.  Both of them made some gold. Sadly though, it seemed that the Death Knights fame did not extend outside of the tournament battles as he made the least amount of money.

Meanwhile, the Barbarian/Warlock and Necromancer completed different tasks for money.  The first did manual labor, the second completed Magic tricks to entertain audiences around Iron.  Both made a fair amount of money.

Under Tournament: Round 3

That night, the party once again returned to the under arena.  The Monk and Death Knight decided to arm wrestle and the Death Knight won 2-0 with a tie round happening between the two other battles that lasted for more than ten minutes.  The Barbarian/Warlock and Necromancer did little in preparation for the tournament.

The event that night involved a complete free for all between the now three combatants of Orengar, Naked Monk, and Gonk.  In a complete and utter miracle, Naked Monk finally won a match thanks to his opponents being too focused on each other.

A Dragon

Most of the party went to bed in preparation for the final day of the tournament, but the Death Knight decided to talk to Rose for a little while before bed.  However, strange business was afoot, as an unexpected enemy appeared.  A Dragon appeared in the skies above Iron and landed to speak with Rose.  While the Death Knight pretended to not understand the conversation between the Green Dragonling, when he realized that there might be some sort of inner conflict between the members of the Ourabaras faction, he gave away that he understood too much.  Enraged, the Dragon attacked them both.

Almost immediately, the Dragon used its deadly breath weapon in the two and almost had a lethal effect.  They both got lucky and dodged the more damaging path of the breath, but even a glancing blow was crippling. However, the Dragon failed to finish either Rose or the Death Knight off with its claws.  Instead, the two felled the creature.  Rose ran off to deal with some issue or other, but the Death Knight stayed behind and noticed that the Dragon possessed a strange looking Bow.  He pocketed the item knowing it was likely to be a valuable item to own.

New intrigue has entered the City of Iron as the finals of the tournament looms.  And a Full Moon is coming as well…
