Outside Iron

The adventurers continued their march towards Iron the city of Blacksmiths in Spartia.  The group, composed of a Saiyan Monk, a Half Elf Death Knight, a Human Barbarian/Warlock, a Dragonborn Paladin, and a Tiefling Psionic was rejoined by their Stone Giant Rogue ally.  He did not explain where he had been.

The group encountered a group of Goblins near Iron and most of them ran to engage the enemy.  However, the guards of Iron reached the monsters first and easily slaughtered them all. To the members that stayed behind, notably the Rogue and the Psionic, they elected to eat cheese while watching the spectacle.  This food attracted two curious Faerie Dragons who had never seen cheese before.

The group was more than happy to exchange pleasantries with the Dragons, especially since nobody for the most part believed they even existed.  The creatures gave a warning that was an echo of what the Orc Mage had said: “That at the end of the month, the world would no longer be governed by the three Good Gods that ensured peace in the World of Millenia. They also cautioned to beware of any and all Magic users. (The party exempted of course)

Inside Iron

The group finally made it to Iron, a large city filled with merchants and much larger than any other location the group had been to.  The group split up deciding to dedicate to different tasks and a couple ran into problems.

The Psionic, who wore armor that was invisible, except to Mages, managed to have an entire group of guards attempt arrest for public nudity.  After almost forcing them to attack him via resisted arrest, he managed to use magic to convince the captain of the guard to ignore him.  Content, he made use of a free hotel room for travelers that were attending a special event.

The Rogue, who was viewed with immediate hostility from all the townspeople because of his race, was forced to pose as a servant of the others.  He got an idea into his head to bet money on the upcoming tournament happening in Iron.  After the rest of the party had declared their intent to participate, he decided to use their money.  After taking some of the Monk’s cash as well as the Death Knights, the Rogue felt like he could succeed at the scheme, but the Death Knight who did not trust him at all, and asked the guards to search his companion after noticing he had less money than before.  The Rogue was caught and now the guards would be watching him carefully.  He did succeed in using the Monk’s money for gambling and is hoping for his victory in the tournament.

After dealing with the Rogue, the Death Knight decided to ask Blacksmiths in Iron about his unusual sword.  However, magic was relatively unknown even in a major city.  As a result, only the head blacksmith would know the truth of the origin metal that made up the blade.  The blacksmith he talked to admitted that only a Dwarf would really know the answer.  Unfortunately, Dwarves stayed away from major Human cities.  The Death Knight sought out the rest of his companions but found nothing else worth doing and ultimately went to bed.

The Paladin was the only one who had been to Iron before and knew that the shops were mostly closed at night.  She decided to find an inn and sleep till morning.  She hoped that during the day, she would encounter a few friends she had made the last time she had been within the city’s walls.

The Barbarian and Monk met up at an inn to look for odd jobs so that they could make money.  However, the local tournament was keeping everyone occupied and so the two elected to join in on that festivity.  They rested well for they would all but the Rogue be participating in the tournament.

The Tournament: Day 1

The first battle pitted the Monk against a Dwarf Warrior named Gonk.  Imposing armor frustrated his opponent.  Though the Dwarf got a few hits in, ultimately the Monk easily crushed him and seized a victory.  Proof that the best offense is not a good defense.

The Death Knight faced off against an enemy simply known as Naked Monk.  This made him the second nude individual in Iron after the Psionic. Though he had flashy attacks, Naked Monk was no match for the Armored Death Knight who had higher offense and defense.

The Barbarian/Warlock faced off against another Barbarian named Rangar. Being an Orc was odd enough, but the mirror match of Barbarians became furious in moments.  While making use of his Warlock powers gave him a slight advantage, both combatants enraged immediately, making the battle take a long time.  After missing each other with a flurry of deadly blows, the crowd began booing in frustration. Eventually thanks to the spell armor of Agathys, the Barbarian/Warlock managed to win the battle of attrition.

Next up was the Paladin who faced off against a Rogue named Orengar.  The rogue preferred using a bow and kept at range.  The Paladin adapted with throwing javelins.  One arrow found its mark and threatened to put the Paladin to sleep with a dangerous toxin, but she shrugged off the attack and ultimately her brute force defeated the Rogue’s manipulations.

However, the final match of the day was the one that was most exciting.  The Psionic stepped into battle adorned with his armor that still only appeared to Mages.  To all others he still appeared naked.  His opponent was a beautiful woman clad in black cloak.  Showing a fair amount of skin, the Psionic was called back to reality when she remarked about thew quality of his armor. Naming herself Rose, she mentioned a mysterious entity named Ourabaras and claimed that the rest of the world “would know of her dark lady at the end of the month.”

The fact that she was also a Magic User forced the Psionic into action. Taking to the skies on his wings, he sought to use distance to give him an advantage as he attempted to quickly defeat this foe with powerful Magic.  His advantage was nullified when his opponent cast Levitate on herself, joining him in the sky. The Psionic used his Dream Form ability to draw attacks away from himself, but Rose dispatched the image in one attack.  Next he tried another spell, meant to end the battle quickly, and while he seemed to have scored a direct hit, the Sorceress revealed her nature as a Wild Magic user and twisted fate to avoid the attack.  Even worse, her Wild Magic Spell almost nailed the Psionic with Confusion.

He attacked again still trying for a brutal finish to this deadly game, but Rose almost ended the battle quicker by trying to cast Charm Person.  If the Psionic had failed to resist the spell, he would have been forced to concede victory right then and there. She also managed to get him caught up in a Cloud of Daggers.  This attack dealt major damage to him, but finally he manged to gain the upper hand with one final powerful spell.  He claimed victory in the most dangerous encounter of the tournament.

The Rogue eagerly awaits the end of the first day of the tournament.  He has money to collect and new schemes to concoct. The rest eagerly await round two, but the entire group will be treading carefully knowing such a dangerous sorceress is on the loose.

It is now only 6 days until the next full moon and the Monk hopes to make use of this should he make the finals in the tournament.  Still, all the individuals warning the party of what the end of the month means does not bode well…
