Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Audubon Park

At the end of my last adventure, I reached Audubon Park. So for this post, I decided to check the park out.

Audubon Park was not at all what I expected. Well later at least. The first section was what I thought the park would encompass. A parking lot with some green space around it doesn’t give away what is hidden here.

And if I had not looked closely, I might have missed quite a bit. The only hint that I knew there was more, was because the nearby trail was nowhere to be seen. But as I walked down by the water, I found a trail that took me into the woods. What I found next was incredible.

Diving into the woods at Audubon Park revealed the main attractions. Signs pointed to specific trees drawing my focus towards them. Everywhere I looked I saw something different. But this was the only the beginning.

I mentioned in my last post about boardwalks and how they protected the environment as well as the people exploring them. I got to look at proper swamp up close and personal. Smell not included which is a good thing. But there were bugs. And they were more than happy to descend on me.

Still even the annoying pests couldn’t take away from how excited I was. A park that seemed to be relatively unknown and with such incredible sights. This was an amazing find. And as I moved past the boardwalk, I discovered that I wasn’t done exploring this park. Not by a longshot.

After emerging from the trail, I beheld another part of Audubon Park. I won’t say its the real park. Everything nearby is the real park. But I didn’t expect to find these open green fields with lakes when I stepped out from the swamps.

And I was one of the only people here. A shame that such a unique park goes unnoticed. Hopefully those of you reading this will check this place out. Its one of the more unique places I have visited. There are entire paths around the lakes, but I didn’t realize this when I visited. Sounds like there is reason to return.

This is an amazing park. There might not be basketball courts or playgrounds. But this place really takes you into nature and leaves you free to use the space as you see fit. A unique experience that I rarely find when I visit parks.

There was one more place to check out at Audubon Park. I still hadn’t found the trail. Since that had been my prior stopping point, I needed to find it again before my next adventure so that I could set out before the sun got too high in the sky.

Luckily for me there was a path that led straight to it from the park. Similar to one of the earlier parts but a bit different. I also found out later that there used to be a second path that went from the entrance to the trail, but the swamp reclaimed it some time ago.

Compared to the trail, Audubon Park was much better in Pokémon Go. My only regret as far as the game is concerned is that the best sections of the park to play are at the entrance and just inside the woods. Once you are near the lakes, there are few spawns and no Pokestops at all.

That leaves this park in a strange and unique position. Enter the park to play Pokémon Go. Go deeper in to be immersed in nature and see a truly spectacular park.

I hatched an Absol and Litten while here. Nothing special but nothing crummy either. Just a neutral reaction.

At the end of this adventure something special happened to this little Sandile. I mentioned this in my prior blog post. And was sneaky and acted like you would find out in this one. Gotta wait one more post to see what happened.

Here I am without a hat. I was dumb and forgot it. Good thing I didn’t get too sunburned. Not that I cared at the time. I was much more focused on Audubon Park. What an amazing park hidden in a place I never would have found if not for the trail. If you live near Deltona, Florida I highly recommend checking this hidden park out.
