Cycle of Millennia 2022 Session 51: Confronting Mirr
Here is week 51 of my 2022 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. The party isn’t just fighting a Prime Dragon. Mirr is also Orabaras’ executioner and crushed the party in their last clash.
Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.
!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!
This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.
There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.
Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.
!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!
As the Party fought the Prime Blue Dragon, they learned a terrifying truth. Mirr, Orabaras’ enforcer, who had already singlehandedly humbled the group, was revealed to be Zaytae’s Human form. Besides the several commas used to describe that terror, Velkoara and Grez especially were not thrilled to deal with such an enemy.
Though tough, it turned out that the Dragon gave them a sporting chance to fight back. Mirr had no trouble laying the party low, but it turned out that their true form was easier to manage. and considering Zaytae shifted between both forms, it was almost as if they were allowing the group to win. And they did. At least against Zaytae. Mirr apparently still was tethered to her Goddess bringing into to question just exactly what a Dragon Prime even was.
But just like before, the group was weakened and near death. And so once more another Dragon Prime appeared to help them. What could happen later with one less Dragon Prime to protect them if they run into trouble?
Approaching Madness:
The party returned to the center room, and Rose and Belwyn were running out of air fast. That shield was almost completely closed and the two women were struggling to stay conscious. Rose didn’t even have the energy to scream as she watched the group run past as they fought their way through the final obstacle between them and saving these two.
Party fought Kranaak’s Red Dragons and they proved that they were done following any rules or honor that the Reds and Blacks had. After all what would a Chaotic Evil God and his minions be without some trickery and backstabbing. The other two areas had been guarded by Dragons hell bent on preventing
Instead of fighting slowly through another section of the Realm of Law, the Prime Red Dragon sent every single creature under its sway to destroy the party all at once. It seemed that since Rose and Belwyn’s Death was coming soon, that Kranaak no longer cared about drawing this thing out. Instead the Demon God wanted to rush right to the tragedy.
Confronting Madness:
Though there were several close calls and Caic dodging death several times, the group has only one Prime Dragon to fight. Countless Demons and even some Undead that were not affiliated with Nihilinn had tried to slow them down. Even the Dragon itself knew that none arrayed against the party would succeed. But rather than being worried about failure, the Red Dragon proved why Kranaak was its patron God.
Rather than try to stop the group, it seemed to be reveling in the pain and suffering even if that pain and suffering was from its own troops. Leave it to Kranaak to try and out edge the other two Gods. Naturally, the party has to face this Dragon next. And what tricks might it employ to cause even more pain and madness?
Can they save Belwyn and Rose? Or is it too late? And what might happen if all 6 Dragons fall in this Realm of Law?
