Centrum Glacies Session 127: Jyona’s Wrath
Week 127 of the Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues as a group of Cultists provoke and incite Jyona’s Wrath.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. You can check out the first one here.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing in the book series.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture, psychological warfare, child abuse, and slavery.
Most recently, the party helped cause a complete planetary genocide. Save a few survivors, no one remains from that world. They are still grappling with this unfathomable loss of life and their role in making it happen. It is clear that their suffering is far from over. They can only hope they don’t cause untold pain to an even more untold more.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
After clearing out the nearby room of shadows, the party moved carefully through the crypt. They knew Olanna was still watching them. And there were plenty of Undead in this place as well. Obrom’s brand confirmed as much as it still seared his flesh.
Jyona smelled oil in one of the nearby rooms as they continued moving about carefully. Soon after, she and Trent found the source the smell down one of the nearby corridors. Meanwhile, Jyona’s Golem was intent on searching the other exit out of their current room, bypassing the oil completely.
Trent, however had no interest in walking into a trap. Certainly not one where it was likely that their enemies would be unaffected by. And so he threw a stone into the oiled room to see if anything was lurking nearby.
The Druid had incredible hearing and was also a proficient tracker from all his years living in the forest. While nearby enemies, tried to conceal their presence, they couldn’t hide their breathing. A sound that told Trent that it was living enemies, not Undead ones, lurking around the corner and in the next room over.
Drawing the Enemy Out
Teztcal hated being left out. And came up with a grand idea. “HEY CULTISTS! WE HAVE INVADED YOUR LAIR!” The Dragon did not wait for a response. Instead he ignited the oil with a fire bolt.
The party heard a Cultist taunt them from thin air. The enemy as well as several others were most likely invisible in some way. And so Jyona cleverly laid a lightning runestone as a trap in the doorway. Her quick thinking revealed that several members of the Cult of Obsidian had been in a gaseous form to try and break into the room and ambush them.
With Jyona blocking a majority of the cultists in the room where the oil had ignited, Trent cast an insect plague to further harm the remaining enemies. There turned out to be quite a few of them, including a powerful Warlock in their ranks.
Seeing what Trent had done, the Warlock tried to use a dangerous spell of its own. But he never finished the incantation, because Jyona counterspelled him. A good thing she had blocked that, because they had another problem to deal with. A few cultists had managed to sneak by before the Rune had been placed. And they targeted Kisara. She was quickly left horribly injured.
Skeletons
There was more trouble coming there way though. Down from the other direction, the party heard bones moving. There were skeletons making their way down the other hall attracted by the other battle. Luckily Jyona’s golem was blocking that doorway. On both fronts, the majority of enemies were forced into a dangerous funnel. Their only option would have been retreat.
As the battle went on, Jyona willingly took four lives for the first time. Her wrath was surging. Especially with Kisara being in even more danger. The party tried to separate the Cultists from Kisara, but they choose to put themselves back in danger to keep attacking the teen dragon.
This infuriated Jyona to a breaking point. Even Trent become disturbed as she willingly transformed into a Rakshasa. Her wrath burned through her Demonic Blood. She looked at the Cultists with nothing less than hate filled eyes.
The Cultists changed their target to Jyona. But to no avail as she was immune to the Warlock’s Magic. And the regular Cultists could barely scratch her. The rest of the group made use of this change in the battle and quickly slaughtered the Skeletons too. Soon, nothing remained except burned corpses.
Jyona surprised everyone else as she remained in Demon form and started collecting Cultist heads with no prompting. She had been most opposed to this grisly quest and yet now she was wholeheartedly involved in it.
Wrap Up
Jyona’s wrath is controlling her emotions. It might become a problem if she embraces that hatred too strongly. Especially this deep in enemy territory.
