Centrum Glacies Session 59: Frost Giants
Week 59 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues as the party encounters several Frost Giants and worse beyond that.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. You can check out the first one here.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing in the book series.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.
Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group recently was incinerated in lava. But rather than die, they have been transformed into Demons. And every moment they have to resist a bloodlust that is trying to take hold.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
Trent convinced Teztcal to let Jyona man the turret. Jyona was not currently combat capable. Especially compared to her two companions and their significantly more aggressive Demon forms.
But they did no intend to leave her alone for long. There were certainly more monsters in this place. And they intended to lure them all towards said turret for a nasty surprise.
It didn’t take long for Trent and Teztcal to find enemies. Two Frost Giants lurked in the fog waiting for intruders. It was likely that the White Dragon had warned them about the party earlier. But rather than engage, the two Demons ran away hoping the Frost Giants would give chase. And they did.
Unfortunately, the noise made by this game of cat and mouse attracted other combatants. Frost Trolls also lived in this cave and they appeared to be hungry. They chased the noise and caught the two as they neared where Jyona was ready with an ambush of her own.
Between the turret and the powerful combatants, the three made progress against these dangerous enemies. But luck turned to their side. The remaining Frost Giant missed a throw and sent a rock smashing into one of the Trolls. Teztcal ever ready to mess with his enemies, managed to convince the Trolls to kill the remaining Frost Giant.
Exhausted Once More
The group earned a victory. But they were exhausted and out of resources. They had no choice but to leave the ice cave once more. They needed to rest if they were going to deal with whatever was in this cave. And Jyona suspected that it might be something dangerous that kept the conditions so cold down there.
They considered going to the Orcs once more. but yet again decided against it as they weren’t sure if they would shoot Demons on sight. Instead they made a fire and camped out in the frozen wastes. They said little to each other. All three were eager to turn back to normal.
Returning to the ice cave, the party reached the deepest section. Here the fog was thicker. It actually hung in the air and ripped at their flesh. Even with their resistance to cold they were harmed by this natural hazard. More and more Jyona had an idea what made this lair its home.
Unusual Encounter
And she got an inkling of what it was when they found another group of Kobolds. Suspiciously nothing else was there. This fight seemed a little two easy considering what had guarded the way here.
Teztcal tried to indoctrinate them. Kobolds were not powerful. And the party was a group of powerful Demons. Surely they could be brainwashed into his service.
They refused and proceed to attack the party instead. Was something else controlling them? There wasn’t an immediate answer. Just a wholesale slaughter of monsters.
That was until one of the Kobolds proved to made of much stronger stuff. After taking significantly more punishment than its peers, the monster revealed its true form. And the party was now in the direct line of fire or cold really of a White Dragon. And not a little one like before. This Dragon was a fully grown adult.
Wrap Up
As the air around the party froze even deeper, it was clear that this Dragon had made its lair here. And that meant it controlled all the conditions too. They are about to be in a deadly clash that might be the final obstacle between their dark fate and a chance at redemption.
