Centrum Glacies 2021 Session 17: Wrong Target
Week 17 in 2021 of this Dungeons and Dragons Campaign in Centrum Glacies continues as the party goes deeper into the Abyssal Continent and explores its mysteries. Unfortunately, the group picked the wrong target.
Like my other campaign, I’m turning this one into a book series. However I’m still working on that project. Give it some time.
Anyway, just like my other campaign, there is a whole lot going on and I don’t want to elaborate on every moving piece in the story. You can see the whole thing once the book series starts hitting virtual and real shelves.
!!!Trigger Warning!!!
This story deals with a cruel world with some horrific twists. So far, this campaign has featured: Animals getting killed, Genocide, lots of body horror, evil cults, brainwashing, torture.
Most recently one of the party members had an eye gouged out and lost an arm. Not exactly the way it happens in Berserk, but that might have been the inspiration for it. The group at large is currently succumbing to magical wounds that appear to be turning them into Demons.
!!!Final Trigger Warning!!!
Since the Orcs wouldn’t let the group enter their nearby camp until all the nearby Demons were slain, the party only had one logical way forward. Party chose to find the Demon Leader.
Their Vampire ally offered to scout around and locate all their targets. And while she went off to do just that, Trent discussed with the others how to remove the Vampire threat from the world once they no longer had a use for her.
She returned a whole lot faster than he assumed she would. Adrene heard his every word. Rather than apologize though, the Druid double downed and further insulted the Vampire. She muttered under her breath that she would deal with some of the Demons on her own, but it was hard for Malcolm and Faustus not to sense sadness. She masked it fairly well and flew off.
Trent transformed into an Earth Elemental. He didn’t feel like climbing the cliffs where a bunch of Demons lurked. But climbing straight up the mountain would alert their enemies. Since Earth Elementals could tunnel through earth, the Druid had the perfect plan of attack. And he charged ahead, trusting his allies to follow behind.
Malcolm dashed up the mountain. The rest of party followed, stunned at the speed that the Dwarf made use of. But about halfway up, Faustus decided he was tired and commanded his Demon pet to carry him up the rest of the way. Was it cool? Yep. Was it inefficient? Maybe.
Trent accidently killed innocent civilians. The Demons used them as human shields showcasing that they had at least some semblance of intelligence. The entire group felt disgusted at this turn of events and all decided to show no mercy to the remaining combatants.
Faustus risked using the Mental Law of Magic on another target and took over a second Demon. He wanted this battle to be over quickly. There were too many other things to worry about. These Demons were just small fry.
Trent took his fury to new levels. The Druid jumped off the nearby controlled Demon and smashed one of the enemy combatants into the ground, changing the height of the mountain by a few inches. But killing one monster didn’t bring back the people he accidently killed. So he focused his anger on finishing off the rest.
The Hezrou which had been friendly broke free of its control and went after Faustus. It turned out that the Warlock lacked the power to control too many creatures at once. In fact his multiple uses of the item started to take its toll.
Faustus used a nearby dying Vrock as a living resource to channel the law again. He went past the major drawback of this item by doing something that normally would be unethical. But these were Demons. He didn’t care. With the Artifact’s power he asserted control over the Hezrou once more.
Malcolm is bleeding to death. Jyona is nearing deaths door herself. The party seems to have let their titles get to their heads. A good thing that Adrene returned in the nick of time and removed one of the Demons. Maybe Trent will change his views on her?
