Exploring the World with Pokémon Go: Seminole Softball Complex
My next destination was Seminole Softball Complex. It was right next to my last destination and so I had a preview of what I would find.
Though Seminole Softball Complex is only separated from Sanlando Park by a small creek, the two parks are drastically different. This one has little of the overgrowth and there isn’t a tennis court to be seen. Instead, open fields, a couple lakes and of course, baseball fields dot the landscape.
Right at the entrance to the park is a workout area. In contrast to my last adventure, this one is not cleverly hidden in the forest though.
There is a path that walks around the pond pictured above. While I could have chosen to simply stick to that area for a bit, I saw some other spots on the outer edge that seemed more interesting. Naturally that was the direction I headed next.
The next at Seminole Softball Complex I explored the grassy area on the outside. I feel like while most people go right to the softball fields in the middle, this area of the park is not looked at nearly as much. The grass looked a little more barren than what I saw in some other places, but that is fine. This more rugged natural look isn’t as bad as it might seem. Nature is more than capable of taking care of itself.
One other spot of interest was marked by a couple signs. I saw another entrance to the Seminole Wekiva Trail. I’ll be returning to that adventure for my next post. I wanted to make sure to draw attention to this new entrance since it is unlikely that I will be documenting the trail from this exact angle in the future.
Softball Fields:
Up last but certainly not least were the softball fields that Seminole Softball Complex gets its name from. Due to Covid, these fields sat mostly empty. I even feared that I might get kicked out of this part of the park by the staff who were doing their jobs when I visited. The grass and fields need to be upkept even when the sports are not being played.
Its really shame how the pandemic has made people less likely to visit these parks. One of the reasons I moved to Florida was for the weather. There are countless areas that remain unseen because of all the major changes in our lives. That makes me feel like this blog is more important than ever.
Tangents aside, the park seems well equipped for Softball or Baseball. I didn’t see a two story concessions and management building at many of the prior parks. Maybe this place is more similar to Sanlando Park that I thought. Replacing tennis with softball makes that clear.
Pokémon Go:
So how does Sanford Softball Complex measure up in Pokémon Go? Admittedly quite well. There are plenty of Pokestops and even some gyms scattered about. The spawns were plentiful and all the areas were within easy reach. Really the only downside to playing Pokemon Go here is that Sanlando Park is right next door and offers an even better experience.
There is nothing wrong with playing Pokemon Go here though. If like me you are taking an adventure down the Sanford Wekiva Trail, make sure to plan a stop here. Its a wonderful park.
I’m walking a new buddy now. This Gothita is mastering its Psychic Powers as we travel around the Orlando area. Look how happy they are while visiting Seminole Softball Complex.
Here I am at Seminole Softball Complex with a content look on my face. At the time I was relieved that I wasn’t going to get kicked out of the park. This adventure was fun. But I am ready to get back on the trail. That will have to wait till next time though.
