Cycle of Millennia 2021 Session 4: Not Enough Tentacles
Here is week 4 of my 2021 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Cycle of Millennia. Lets go over session 4: Not Enough Tentacles.
Don’t forget that this campaign has been ongoing for over three years. There is a lot of story to cover and I’m writing a book series to document it all. I am adapting this adventure into a book series. The first three are on Amazon.
!!!Trigger Warnings Abound!!!
This campaign takes place in an incredibly unpleasant setting. The party has dealt with Human Traffickers, Sex Slavery, Child Sacrifice, The Apocalypse, Genocide, Wicked Cults, and other related topics.
There is a God of Madness that is fond of causing auditory and visual hallucinations, makes use of psychic gaslighting, commands the literal legions of hell, and all around causes untold suffering in the setting.
Essentially, nothing is off the table in this campaign. If the above ideas are not ones you want to think about, I do not think this blog series is for you. That is not a problem and does not indicate any failings on your part. I am a storyteller that does not shy away from the darkest topics. It would be horrible for me to not warn my audiences of this in advance.
!!!Final Trigger Warning. Past this point there be dark topics!!!
Though they entered Mongress in the last session, horrific creatures from the nightmares of nightmares warped reality and pulled the party to another realm. Though multiple of these abominations had been dealt with, the last one had a few extra tricks.
While the group had dealt with masses of tentacles since the encounter started, the horrific creature introduced a new ability when its tendrils floated above the party and rained magical death on them from above. More terrifying though was the fact that the attacks connected with multiple party members but they did not feel any different.
Velkora unfortunately after multiple mind breaking encounters with these creatures, withdrew into her mind once again. Only she found no solace there. Only more monsters greeted her in a place that should have been a sanctuary. These revelations shook her to her core, even more so when she awoke next.
Healing Blocked:
Something was amiss though. Rose the Sorceress fell unconscious at the conclusion of the battle. Caic, ever the bold Paladin tried to heal her, but noticed that his holy energy seemed to fail. Her wounds didn’t vanish, nor did she awaken.
Worried, since he had been hit by the same attack, Caic used as much magic as he could afford to try and heal his own wounds. He managed a trickle, but it was almost like an unseen force ate up most of the magic. Curious, he used the remaining healing power left to try healing the Sorceress. He got the same results.
The group deliberated seeking another location to rebuild Mongress. Clearly this place was tainted. However, Rose pointed out that outside of this area, the land was corrupted and dead by Nihilinn God of Death. This would be the best place to try and rebuild.
Going off on his own Grez the Monk encountered a strange light and powered up one of his abilities. The only sign that this isn’t another trick is that the beacon sat where the Paladin chapel had once stood. Of course, his first use of this new technique was to splash river water Rose’s way. They continue to behave like a married couple. Of course point that out to either at your own peril.
A New Directive:
Not sure what to do next, party decided to ask the Elves for help to help heal the land Mongress once stood on. They needed to heal the land that was stripped completely by the Tarrasque. And they needed to act soon lest death swallow this sanctuary as well.
Returning to the Necropolis, the party told Lord Death what had happened. With his reasoning and after much discussion, the party came to the conclusion that these strange creatures might be connected to one of the unmet neutral Gods. Though the group still wondered if maybe the Tarrasque had spawned them.
The party plans to return to the Elves. This had been their first spot on their journey in the new world. It was only a matter of time till they decided to return.
