Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Barber Park
As one drives down Dixie Belle Drive in Orlando Florida to avoid the heavy traffic of nearby Semoran Boulevard, they might stumble upon Barber Park. A combination of hunting for a Trapinch, and living right near by lead me to this place. Let’s explore another park with Pokemon Go.
Barber Park has many facilities that are used by those who visit. This volleyball court is one such example. The building behind it seems to be for multi-use. I can imagine using the open space for skate boarding is a common occurrence.
The park gave me a great start to my Pokemon Go adventure. I caught a Scyther, which is fairly rare to encounter. But what was better is the fact that Barber Park is a nest. What this means for people who do not play Go, is that on a rotating schedule, this location gets flooded by a specific Pokemon. At the time of this writing, that Pokemon is Quilfish. It is quite a rare find, though not a particularly powerful one.
Open Fields:
Roughly half of Barber Park is open fields. In this distance a nearby neighborhood is visible. What is hard to see from this image is the lake that separates the housing complex from the park. There were signs saying that the fields were temporarily closed. I assume that was for the sake of the growing grass.
The trail that continues around Barber Park zigzags through the many small ponds that dot the area. A few birds call these areas home and I got a chance to observe a few. They are pictured here towards the center right side.
In one corner of the park, there is an entire area set aside specifically for soccer fields. Like the other area that led to the distant lake mentioned above, these fields were closed. I imagine the reasons given above applied to this part of the park as well.
Here is another picture of one of the lakes. I cannot tell if it is over saturated or if the entire region is missing water. Either way, I found the water being so close in level to the shore to be an amazing sight. Sometimes its the little things that mystify us.
Corners of the Park:
Here is another view of the soccer fields. Once again I did not get to walk around this part of the park. However, I did catch quite a few Quilfish in Pokemon Go as well as find a second Scyther. There were definitely some good finds here.
In the final area of Barber Park, I found a skate park. While I have never been a skater, I have always respected those who have the balance to do well. I lack the balance to even stay on a board much less do the tricks that those who use this area of the park are able to perform with ease. While walking nearby, I managed to catch a near perfect Magikarp in the wild. I promptly evolved this might 97 percenter.
Meanwhile in Pokemon Go:
Today PVP was in full force in Pokemon Go and I got a chance to battle a few players while walking around Barber Park. I won all the battles because I am a Pokemon Master. But I’ll be real, I doubt my winning streak will last.
Here is most of Barber Park in Pokemon Go. Its a fairly large area so getting it in one screenshot was difficult. With multiple stops and two gyms to battle in, this location is a great spot to play. The icing on the cake is that this nest is a park. If hunting for rare Pokemon, players might find their way here depending on what appears.
In the image, I still controlled the gym with the Snorlax. Soon after this picture was taken, I lost that gym to the same Team Valor Player who knocked me out of the first gym. I did not bother to defend because I could earn no more coins from defense.
As always, here is what hatched while I was walking Barber Park. Starraptor the final form of this little bird is quite powerful. I was pleased with the hatch.
Look forward to another park explored tomorrow. There is so much still just waiting to be discovered!
