Dungeons and Dragons Day 17: Lost in A Dream
The Ropers Fall
The Ropers continued to pose a serious threat to the party as they fought for their very survival. The Barbarian Warlock was getting serious mileage out of casting Armor of Agathys. The tentacles of the Ropers did not deal any actual damage and thus, despite being grappled, the Barbarian Warlock was getting free hits on the main bodies.
The Monk was becoming increasingly frustrated at the situation and constantly struggled to break free. The Death Knight was in the least danger of the group and continued to pile on attacks. Eventually, the three prevailed though it was a very close call and all three were close to exhaustion.
Still, they continued to search the caves, desperate to complete a mission that would gain them entrance to the Dwarven Council Meeting. What they found instead was the strangest monster yet. A tentacled monstrosity appeared before the group for just a moment. If not for the tendrils, the creature would have looked human. But whatever this monster was, it had big plans for the party. Suddenly the world around them vanished and all three of them found themselves alone.
The Death Knight’s Dream
Trapped within the Astral Realm, the Death Knight walked halls made from a place too surreal to actually exist. Quickly he was attacked by a swarm of bats, but such creatures hardly posed a threat. However, he soon came face to face with a Mummy. This creature would have been much deadlier, but because of well timed attacks, the Death Knight defeated the monster without taking any hits. However, the final room beckoned him in a way that no others did. A sweet aroma and a soft voice told him to come closer…
The Monk’s Dream
Within his own Astral Dream, the Monk was forced to avoid a spike trap almost instantly. He was then forced to use energy in his fist to see since this realm was pitch black. However, the dangers intensified once he broke down a door. A massive Troll was on the other side, and it was in no mood for funny business. However, the Monk intended to mess with the creature despite its name. Using his Slippers of Spider Walking, he quickly got out of range of any attack. The Troll tried to follow, but kept falling down and the height of the ceiling worked in the Monk’s favor. Even throwing rocks failed to work, and the Troll feel over in defeat.
The Barbarian Warlock’s Dream
The Barbarian/Warlock had the most trouble of them all. After avoiding a guillotine trap, he tread much more carefully. This ended up being wise as two more lightning traps almost killed him. Unsure what would happen if he was defeated in this strange place, the Barbarian/Warlock decided to avoid the trapped doors at all cost. After running down many long passageways, he finally reached a large room. And it was not empty. A massive horde of Zombies stood between him and the next door. Standing in the hallway so that he would not be overrun, he prepared to face these foes one at a time.
For Next Time
Time flows differently in the Astral Realm and no one can predict how much time the party will have left once they leave this strange place.
