Dungeons and Dragons Day 15: Contrived Coincidences
Battle with Drow:
The Party was still split up when things began again. The Death Knight and Gonk found themselves against a Water Elemental. Meanwhile, The Barbarian/Warlock and the Monk found themselves tied up by a group of Drow.
The Barbarian/Warlock used one of his final spells to free himself and the Monk. Quickly the attacked the group of Drow, who were stunned by such a quick escape. The Monk found himself working into a frenzy as he went from one foe to the next slaughtering every living creature that got in his way.
In the middle of the battle, The Rogue who had decided to dig a tunnel, managed to join the fray from above. As it turned out, the Necromancer had followed him and finally made a reappearance. Together the group managed to defeat the Drow. But not before both the Rogue and Barbarian/ Warlock had been knocked unconscious.
Lich and Vampire:
The surprises had not ended with the group mostly reuniting. As it turned out, killing the enemies in the room had set off a ritual. The ritual that had barred the group entry in the first place. The leader of this band of Drow, the very enemy that had almost defeated half the party single-handedly was resurrected as a powerful Lich.
Thanking the group for his ascension, the Lich left in haste for plans unknown. He left behind multiple insignias. Not only did they link him to house Runebrewer, but to Nihilin and Cranaak! The party wanted to reveal this information as the group, notably the Barbarian/Warlock were very much done with all the Dwarven schemes and wanted to move on to killing Cultists.
However, the ritual also had done something to the Water Elemental and the entire dungeon began to flood rapidly. The Death Knight tried as hard as he could to try and salvage some of the treasure, but he was pushed out of the cave system and back into the tunnels above. A very soaked Gonk joined him. The rest of the group met up with them back in the upper tunnels and planned to make an uproar.
The mysterious Vampire Antoinette suddenly appeared again and with some startling information. She pointed out that the Cults that the group kept referring to were very much active here and that their handiwork was obvious if the party looked. She also strongly warned against the group revealing what they had seen to the Dwarven Nobles. Especially news about the Lich. Her reasoning being that there were already too many variables at play and adding more problems would only make the situation worse.
House Windmaul:
The group still needed to gain approval to join the council meeting and after clearing out the Drow encampment, two houses would vouch. This meant talking to the enemy houses. Not a prospect the group looked forward to. As they walked towards House Windmaul, the most reasonable sounding house of them all. Many eyes were upon the party as they traveled to the house.
Once inside, the were greeted by many guards who escorted them to Mofruna, the Battlemaiden of House Windmaul as well as the wife of the house head. She informed the group she was busy and that if they wanted to talk they would need to make it quick. After telling her that they wanted to join in the council meetings, Mofruna told them that the fastest language in this house was through battle.
The Death Knight and Monk quickly aroused interest and the two were directed to a special dome like area safe for them to duel without harming anyone else. However, the two realized just how exhausted their last journey had made them and asked for some time to rest. They struck a nerve with house Windmaul by overstaying their welcome.
Mofruna told the group to hurry up and leave. She was not comfortable with House Runebrewer able to spy on them so easily. The group decided to use their short amount of time to ask her what she meant as the Death Knight and Monk completed their duel. As it turned out, the Runeblade that the Death Knight bore, had been enchanted by none other than the chief blacksmith of Runebrewer. Mofruna pointed out that the group had been being manipulated before they had even been aware.
Rose Returns:
The party left house Windmaul feeling upset over being tricked so easily. The group vowed to find the Runebrewer Blacksmith and started searching the taverns where he apparently frequented while posing as a commoner. One especially crowded tavern seemed promising.
The group did find someone, just not who they were looking for. Rose who was here for reasons that were not clear was on the center stage. Flanked by two other mysterious women, she noticed the party quickly. The Necromancer cast Detect Magic and discovered that the two women with Rose posed a far greater danger than the Sorceress. Indeed, they were not even Humans or from this plane of existence from what he could deduce.
The Death Knight had many questions for Rose, and so they decided to talk through their mutual problems. He especially wanted the brand that continued to cause him problems removed. However Rose continued to tell him that was not possible. Her Lady, Ourabaras had claimed the Death Knight as her own.\
Captured in the Night:
The remaining party members returned back to the inn for a good night’s rest. However, the Necromancer decided it was time to make use of his Helm of Command. He randomly selected a Dwarf and attempted to read their mind. This proved problematic. He succeeded at getting into the Dwarven Women’s head, but that was the problem. She noticed!
As it turned out, he had made the mistake of attracting attention from Gimdure, the Sister of the head of House Bronzebuckle. Like everything else in this city, she was more than appearances indicated. The Necromancer found himself frozen via magic, and knew that she was to blame. Captured and taken away, his fate is currently unknown.
Things have only intensified. Once this night ends, there will only be 11 days left until the problems they are dealing with become unsalvageable. Is this Dwarven Crisis already unsalvageable?
