Me Being Obnoxious to Obnoxious People: Part 2
After my trial run last week, I have decided to continue this comedy blog idea once a week.
Example 1: SGA Campaigners
The first event of the week happened at UCF, a school that still takes up a disproportionate amount of my life. During the week it was SGA Elections which brings out the most obnoxious people in the school. Just like in most politics, the people running for election have empty talking points. This year was even worse than normal as I pointed out when I was continually pressured into voting.
Annoyed that they would not leave me alone I said, “You guys are not even trying to be different anymore. All 5 people running for SGA President are using variations of the exact same slogan: A New Era. My vote will have as much effect as a Pokemon using a normal type move on a Ghost Pokemon.” They tried to argue with me further on those points, and finally I added, “Tell me how these candidates directly benefit me and not themselves and I’m all ears.” Of course they went silent because the whole purpose of being the President of SGA at a University is for resume building.
Example 2: Knight A Thon Enthusiasts
The second encounter managed to occur on the very same day as the first one. As I was walking towards Memory Mall at UCF to play Pokemon Go, I was approached by multiple people trying to raise money for Knight A Thon. This event uses children as a form of Pathos to manipulate people into giving them money. I have found that much of the money raised does not actually go towards the kids at all. However this specific group decided to take things to a whole new level of stupid. They got upset that I refused to donate and accused me of “Not caring about kids who are dying of cancer.”
I responded in turn because I never can leave logical fallacies ignored. I said to them: “The fact that you are using both an appeal to emotion fallacy and appeal to morality fallacy at the same time indicates that your cause is both weak and unjust. You have failed to convince me to donate. Instead, I am convinced that I should never donate to Knight A Thon ever again.”
Example 3: People Who Support Hitting Kids
This last one happened on Facebook. Thanks to the increase in Mass Shootings in the United States people are looking for things to blame. For whatever reason, bad parenting seems to be common. This is alongside the idea that to stop violence from children, one should inflict violence upon them. This one strikes a nerve with me because I do not tolerate abuse of any kind. As a result, I was not gentle with my response to the following statement: “I was beat as a kid and I turned out all right.”
I was very upset that people in this day and age still support beating kids. To be honest, was even more upset that people had the duplicity to blame lack of abuse on school shootings. I responded with: “The fact that you believe that hitting kids no matter what circumstance is justified, indicates that you did not turn out all right” I unfollowed the post not in the mood to deal with such a person anymore.
Much More to Come:
As this is a weekly thing now, stay tuned for even more chances of seeing just how much stupid the world has to offer. There are many people and even more ways to point out the flaws in their beliefs.
