Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha: A Spoiler Free Review

Admin/ January 28, 2018/ Anime

A general rule when I decide to watch an Anime is based on whether the Website TvTropes references it and how often.  Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is mentioned as what happens when a Magical Girl Anime is more targeted towards an older audience.  A second and much more important aspect is that the poster child for Dark Magical Girl appears in this Anime.  More on Fate Testarosa in a moment.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha features exactly what one expects as a protagonist in this genre.  An idealistic hero ghat wants to help others.  However, unlike most protagonists in this genre, Nanoha is genre savvy enough to know that there might be a cost to pay in becoming a Magical Girl.

Her adventures involve rounding up artifacts of doom.  Her life is interrupted drastically a second time when Fate Testarosa, my favorite character in this Anime appears.  Suddenly the plot escalates and keeps viewers on their toes.

There is a good reason that Fate is considered the poster child for Dark Magical Girl.  A lonely girl with a dark secret.  She wants friends, but feels that she cannot have any because of her lot in life.  The character she is adds a lot of depth to an anime, transforming what could have been bland into a story that is nothing less than magical.

There is much more for me to dive into in regards to Nanoha as this Anime spans many arcs over many seasons.  The fight scenes so far are top notch and for those who enjoy Madoka, this is another fun ride with its own twist on the Magical Girl genre.
