Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park

Admin/ June 18, 2019/ Travel

I initially had some qualms about visiting Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park on Fathers Day. After all, plenty would be here creating a connection between themselves and loved ones. It didn’t feel like I should be coming. But vowing to use this as a test in respecting others, I took the jump and entered the park.

Before I started getting images of the many memorial plaques that dot Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park, I took one picture of nearby Lake Baldwin. This is one of the three parks that create the greater Lake Baldwin Park Region.

All right, we got that out of the way so let’s talk about the park prior. There are many different monuments to many different war efforts. I was pleasantly surprised by a couple that honored women soldiers. One that specifically stuck out in my memory was one from the Revolutionary War Times. I had never learned about these inspiring ladies in history class.

A Serene Place:

I continued through Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park with as much respect as I could muster. Though I did not encounter nearly as many people as I expected, I still saw a few who sat deep in silence. I made sure to take pictures far away from them to allot their proper space.

I also felt a calm and serene silence fill this park. Not wanting to disturb the peace, I did not utter a sound while continuing to see what was here. Considering how much I talk under normal circumstances, this is a big deal.

My final leg of the journey through Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park took me to this are right in the middle. Though there are many ways to pay homage to veterans in art, I always like to see dedicated spots such as this one. I took some time to pay my respects to brave men and women who gave their lives so that I could live as a civilian.

Succeeding in not disturbing any other onlookers who came to visit this place, I left feeling satisfied with my good behavior. Perhaps I will feel braver when exploring other places under similar conditions.

Pokemon Go:

I had a great time in Orlando Veterans’ Memorial Park and Pokemon Go had a hand in helping me remain respectful. This was a great area to play. Plenty of spawns. Multiple Gyms and Pokestops within easy reach and the Pokemon that appeared were more uncommon than the pests one finds everywhere.

However, I want to remind anyone who comes here for the game experience to be respectful. This is a Veterans’ Park and the Veteran’s Affairs Office is right across the street. Remember to respect this space so that others may enjoy it as well.

I hatched two eggs the night before I went exploring. Neither one was very impressive. I no longer want to see Porygon from eggs. Lileep normally would be something to celebrate, but an event just finished where this fossil Pokemon was everywhere. Oh well.

I still have a couple more parks to explore in the Baldwin Park Region before I return to the Cady Way Trail. Look forward to even more content soon!
