Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Lake Underhill Park

Admin/ December 18, 2018/ Travel

Lake Underhill Park is a place that many in Orlando are aware of but have not visited.  Anyone who has driven on Toll Road 408 towards downtown Orlando going westbound has crossed the long bridge.  If you live here you know the one.  The park is right alongside this lake, and part of my exploration today took me right alongside the tollway.

Most of Lake Underhill Park is a path around the lake that it shares a name with.  On the left side of this image runs Lake Underhill Road which also shares the name with the lake.  This road is also known as “The road to take to not pay tolls on 408” I cannot stress enough that unlike many of the parks I have visited, this one is known by many in the area.

While I was playing Pokemon Go here, I should note that a special event had just begun in game.  As a result, it would be hard normally to be able to figure out what the rarity and density of Pokemon is in the park.  Luckily, I have been to this location before and can properly tell those looking to play here what they can expect.

Lake Underhill Park also features a workout routine that I have made use of.  It has a set for those who work actively as well as those just starting out. When not playing Pokemon Go, I do my workouts at this location.  But who am I kidding, I still play even when I shouldn’t.

The area right at the shore of Lake Underhill has a rich ecosystem filled with plenty of wildlife.  In the first picture, I spotted some birds taking a break from the sun and taking some time to relax.  I do not know the correct species and do not want to misname, so I will simply call them “birds” to not insult those who do know the proper name.

I also took multiple pictures that showcased the 408 bridge as it crosses the lake.  It is one of my favorite places to drive in all of Orlando and looks quote spectacular at night.  Also you get a bonus image with my shadow in it.  I am not as big and macho as I make myself sound.

At the bend in the path as Lake Underhill Park’s trail reaches the long bridge alongside 408, one can cross under the tollway and reach another park.  I’ll be covering this other location in a future post.  I also should admit that I like going under bridges such as this one because of my love of tunnels.

Here are a series of pictures I took while standing on the bridge and looking at the lake. Pictured progressively closer in each image is a massive swarm of birds eating. When I took the pictures I had no idea why there were so many of them sitting in one place.

However, as I got closer to the end and back near the shore, I found the answer I sought.  There were tons of fish jumping in the water and I had no doubt that many of them became meals as they reached closer to the center of Lake Underhill.

Do not let the sign on 408 distract you.  the true purpose of this picture is the silhouette of the moon in a clear blue sky. Yes, I realize I could have gotten that picture anywhere, but I am a creature of darkness and love the moon.

Near the very center of the Lake Underhill Park Bridge sit a set of benches.  Though I have not had a chance to simply sit and stare at the water, I imagine this is a prime spot to do just that.  Despite the close proximity to the Toll Way right above, very little noise exists to disturb here.  The road above is very well sound proofed.

Lake Underhill Park is a fantastic place to play Pokemon Go.  There is plenty of places to capture new mons.  And there are also two Pokemon Gyms to battle. Though keep in mind that one of the gyms requires crossing busy Lake Underhill Road which can be dangerous at times. Another thing to keep in mind is that on the bridge itself, Pokemon rarely spawn.

With the event happening right now, everywhere is a great place to play Pokemon Go.  Get out there and catch some ice types. And don’t forget Heatran in legenday raids!

I hatched the Eevee before I even reached Lake Underhill Park.  However, the Shelder was gained on the middle of the bridge by the benches.  Look forward to my next area of exploration tomorrow.  I have plenty of Ice Types to catch!
