Exploring the World With Pokemon Go: Lake Eola Park Christmas Event

Admin/ December 23, 2018/ Travel

After yesterday’s failed experiment, I decided to go somewhere extra special to make up for it. And I decided on the Lake Eola Park Christmas Event.  I plan to go to Lake Eola Park a second time even though I partially explored today.  This is due to two factors.  The first was that due to the massive density of people, there were only so many shots I could take. The second was me being an idiot and forgetting to take a picture of this location in Pokemon Go.

As one of the most iconic areas of downtown Orlando, there are few who do not where Lake Eola Park is. However, since not everyone who is reading my about my travels is from the area, this favorite haunt of mine is located just east of downtown. Bordered by Robinson Street, Eola Drive, Rosalind Avenue, and Central Boulevard this venue is a popular destination.

But Lake Eola Park has a lot to offer.  While I took countless pictures of the venue, I have decided that the material I want to focus on today is the extra special Christmas Event.  With that in mind, let us begin.

The Fountain:

I took many pictures of the fountain that serves as the center of Lake Eola Park.  Being Christmas time does not change that this is my favorite feature of the entire park.  Many from around the world have seen pictures of this iconic fountain while searching for images of other areas of the city.

Also pictured in many of the photos is the nearby concert hall.  At the time of this article, the entire building has been painted like a rainbow.  This is to immortalize the victims of the Pulse Shooting.  Orlando Strong Signs still adorn many parts of the city and that included even here.  The Lake Eola Christmas Event represents much of what Orlando is after all.

One might also notice that in quite a few of the photos, that swans are visible. When I first visited this park many years ago, I was rightfully frightened of swans. They are known to be aggressive and intelligent birds.  However, due to constant exposure to the humans who consistently visit Lake Eola Park, the ones that live here are far more friendly. I still don’t get too close, but I no longer go running the other way whenever I see one.

I final point to note.  The Orlando skyline is visible from many angles around the lake.  It really showcases just how important overall Lake Eola is to the downtown area.  There is a reason that The Lake Eola Christmas Event was so crowded.

The Lake:

Here are more photos of Lake Eola itself.  These other images either lack the iconic fountain, or it is obstructed in some way.  The park works itself around this body of water and its large enough for many spectacular views that do not even requires the renowned centerpiece.

One can also see from these images the many different ecosystems of the lake. The differences even exist to the shores of the lake.  Lake Eola is also home to many birds and the Lake Eola Christmas Event made quite a few of them very pleased with the increased amounts of food for them.

Though I try to avoid taking pictures of other people without their permission, the Swan Boats that take individuals out onto the lake can be clearly seen in a few of my photos.

Monuments:

There are plenty of areas at Lake Eola Park besides the lake itself.  Open fields such as this one dot the landscapes on a few of the sides. Thanks to The Lake Eola Christmas Event, many of these areas were mostly free of people.

Most of these monuments are here year round.  And they each stand out from every other area of the park.  There are constantly people at each of these areas taking pictures.  As a bonus, most of them have plaques.

An additional bonus of these areas of Lake Eola Park is the fact that every one of these monuments is either a Pokemon Gym or at least Pokestop.

There are two stages for events at Lake Eola Park. Given the Lake Eola Christmas Event, both were closed at the time.  The much larger stage is pictured first and features concerts and presentations.  The much smaller setup tend to be a place for religious worship.

This memorial statue commemorates the brave men and women who fought at the Battle of the Bulge.  Memorials like this dot all of the United States and I never get tired of visiting them.  Sometimes I learn much from those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

As one of the most visited spots at Lake Eola, it was near impossible to get an image without Humans in the background. The architecture here stands out from almost everything else in the park.

There is another reason for the mass visitation of people to this area.  One that involves Pokemon Go.  Out of every location within Lake Eola, this is the best place in the entire park to catch rare Pokemon.  More on that in a moment.

Pokemon Go:

Lake Eola is one of the best places in the entire Orlando region to play Pokemon Go.  Sadly I did not get a chance to show the map of the park in game.  But since I will be returning a second time to Lake Eola Park when  it is not Christmas themed, it is something to look forward to.

Lake Eola Park Christmas Event was simply a reason for me to visit in a long list of more.  There are many Pokemon Gyms here, and even more Pokestops.  Lake Eola is always a Pokemon Nest, though the Pokemon at the moment is Sudowodo which is a disappointment.

It is no wonder that Lake Eola is jam packed on community days.  There are few places in all of Orlando that are a better experience in game.  One will not go wrong choosing Lake Eola Park when playing Pokemon Go.

As promised, I hatched three eggs to make up for my lack of hatches yesterday.  The fact that I got Wingull twice while at a park surrounded by birds that love water was not lost upon me.
